Na Lei Hoʻohui (The Connecting Lei) is a visual longing of connection back to Hawaii Nei. Though grounded in the Pacific Northwest, I remain rooted in key Hawaiian values- honoring my past within the present, and continuing to move through life with love and resilience.

Each lei carries a story and symbolism:

🌱 From Maile, draped behind and around her, honoring the kūpuna and the path they’ve paved- always carrying it forward.

🌱 Ti leaf, wrapped along her arms, offering protection.

🌱 Lokelani and ʻIlima, resting at her neck, embodying love and my home islands of Maui and Oʻahu.

🌱 ʻAʻaliʻi, worn upon her po‘o, speaks to my resilience- “He ʻAʻaliʻi kū makani mai au; ʻaʻohe makani nāna e kūlaʻi”. No gale can push me down.

🌱 Pīkake and Lauaʻe, draped across the body, remind me to move through life with love and grace- that love itself can be a shield.

This is your reminder that being Hawaiian isn’t bound by place- it’s carried within you, wherever you are.

Prints of “Na Lei Hoʻohui” are now available on my site. As always, mahalo nui for your continued support 💗

Oh, to be Native ✨

Every day, in every way. Today we honor Indigenous resistance- through our practices, our music, our language, our art, our stories, and the lessons we pass down to our youth.

May we continue to rise, reclaim, and remind the world that we are still here.

Beyond excited for this opportunity 💛

I, along side Brandon Naihe, Keliko KM Adams, and Bruce Clayton Tom are a part of the DISplace Artist Talk at The Marysville Opera House on Tuesday October 7th- DAY 1 of The Native Hawaiian Convention.

Our discussion will be moderated by Sage Ke’alohi Quiamno and we will be talking about the DISplace exhibit at The Wing Luke Museum, as well as going over topics like being an artists among the continental diaspora & how we may go against those feelings, as well as how we envision building positive mutual relationships with communities back home in Hawaiʻi (and even here within our own Lahui in Wakinekona 😉)

The 2025 Native Hawaiian Convention will take place on the ʻāina of the Tulalip Tribes, October 6-9th. Join me for this three-day celebration of Hawaiian cultural exchange, connection, and enrichment at the Tulalip Resort Casino. This year we are gathering on the continent in Washington State–no ka lāhui–for the Hawaiian Council’s annual signature event.

Go to hawaiiancouncil.org/convention and get your tickets now!! See you there! 🩵💚
