we’re kicking off 2026 with our first author talk on Jan 31st, 4-6pm by Vichet Chhuon, a Cambodian American professor at the University of Minnesota!

in his book, “Cambodian American Youth, Identity, and School,” Vichet Chhuon describes the ways that Cambodian American students negotiate certain identities in relation to perceived advantages associated with ethnic and panethnic labels. this work invites interrogation of the Asian American category itself and critically examines not only how the model minority stereotype is constructed and imposed but also how it can be adopted and affirmed by Asian Americans themselves.
