So, I usually don’t post things like this, but with going on, and just the state of the world, I think there’s something we need to talk about. When I was taking this picture in the bathroom, a young woman came in and started vomiting and crying in the stall next to me. I waited until she finished and just calmly walked out of the stall. She was a young woman and obviously distraught and overwhelmed. I talked to her for a couple min and asked her if she was safe, needed help, and if she wanted me to get her some water and offered her some antacids I had in my purse. Help takes many forms, and I know people are afraid of being told off by strangers when we see them in distress. I promise you that speaking from experience, it never hurts to check in and make sure someone is okay. We were at a bar in the area. Things can still happen in safe spaces, and sometimes only a few minutes of talking can change that person’s entire evening. She was safe, and I kept an eye on her after we both left the bathroom to make sure she was okay. I will not speak to her personal life that is her story to tell, but sometimes all you need to do is to be the stranger to listen. I’m not a better person because of it, and I’m condemning anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable in these situations. All I ask is if you’re willing and able to help someone who is in distress in safe places for our community, please do so.
