Fall is a great time to protect your plants by adding mulch. Our recommendation: add a 1"-2" layer of compost or soil building conditioner around small plants and a 3"-4" layer around trees and shrubs. Avoid piling the mulch up around tree and shrub trunks. Mulch will help conserve moisture now and protect the roots of your plants from frost damage in winter.
