We are heartbroken to share the passing of our dear friend and longtime Alpine Ascents guide, Robin Pendery.
Robin was beginning her 12th year with Alpine Ascents. She first joined our team in the gear department before finding her calling as a mountain guide, and over the years became an integral part of our guide team and the broader Alpine Ascents family. She guided climbs across the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, taught avalanche education courses, led treks in India, and shared her passion for the mountains with thousands of clients and fellow guides.
But more than her climbing and skiing accomplishments, we’ll remember Robin for her one-of-a-kind spirit. Standing barely five feet tall, Robin had a presence that filled every room and every rope team she joined. She was brilliant, fierce, funny, endlessly capable, and stronger than most people could believe. She refused to let anyone underestimate her, and there were countless times when the smallest person on the team ended up carrying someone else’s pack down the mountain.
Outside of guiding, Robin served as an ER nurse, dedicating her life to caring for others. Whether in the hospital or high on a glacier, helping people was a huge part of who she was. She had a remarkable gift for teaching. She could break down intimidating concepts into something approachable, empowering clients to believe in themselves and accomplish more than they imagined. Her humor and authenticity put people at ease, and her enthusiasm for the mountains was contagious.
For us, Robin was more than a coworker. She was a trusted teammate, a mentor, a climbing partner, and a dear friend. She brought warmth, grit, empathy, and unmistakable spirit to every expedition she joined, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Robin lived boldly, generously, and wholeheartedly. Her legacy endures in the climbers she inspired, the teammates she uplifted, and the countless lives she touched along the way.
Our hearts are with Robin’s family, friends, and all those mourning this tremendous loss.
