I came across these discontinued designs today and got nostalgic. I think “Circus” is one of Phillip’s best designs, but I discontinued it because of the growing awareness of animal welfare. “Pirates “ looked like a promising new design,but Phillip stopped me,saying that he did not want to promote violence. I thought he took it too seriously, as boys play at fighting in every culture,but it was his design after all. I took down “Rhino family” because it presented such an archaic image of family.

A customer who moved back to Japan was worried her cat might damage her lantern. I suggested mounting it on the wall—it’s so lightweight! She did, and loved the result. 🐈🏮

She originally bought this lantern for her baby when she lived in WA. That baby is now a college student, which means this lantern is about 20 years old, too—and it still looks fresh! ❤️

A customer inherited the lantern from her late grandmother and, with her boyfriend’s help, was able to lovingly repair it and bring it back to life. “It was the only thing I asked to take when she passed away. I’m so happy we get to keep this memory of her. I really appreciate your help!!” So am I!

It's always our customers who spot our lanterns in movies before we do!

This time, it's in Steven Spielberg's new movie, Disclosure Day. It's only the lantern frame without the insert, but it definitely looks familiar. 👀

Margret is my lantern customers turned dear friend. She is an artist who generously shares her creations, and today I received a delightful surprise- her handmade bunny bucket (with chocolates inside!). Even the package was a work of art, with a watercolor bunnies and sweet messages. I’ll display it for now, then take it to Japan next month as a souvenir for my niece’s young granddaughter.

With everything happening in the world, celebrating love is difficult. But perhaps love — in all its forms — is what helps carry us through. Sharing this Valentine’s design as a gentle reminder of that.
