1. How long have you been sewing, and what is your best sewing advice to others?⁠
My mom taught me to sew when I was young, and I made simple items like tote bags and curtains for years. I finally started sewing clothes about nine years ago.⁠
⁠
My best sewing advice is to cultivate an enjoyment of the process – not just the end result.⁠
⁠
2. What are you most excited to sew for fall?⁠
Jeans and trousers!⁠
⁠
3. What is your favorite fall fabric to work with? ⁠
This fall I’m whittling down my denim stash.⁠
⁠
4. What fabric(s) from the new Style Maker Fabrics Fall collection immediately caught your eye, and why?⁠
The linen-blend shirting I chose for this project immediately caught my eye because of its texture and subtle print. It’s not often that I find a print that I like! ⁠
⁠
5. If you could design your fall wardrobe around a certain color palette, what would it be? ⁠
Right now I’m adding more earth tones to my otherwise black-and-white wardrobe.⁠
⁠
6. If you could create your perfect handmade fall outfit, what fabrics and patterns would you use? ⁠
I’m imagining something monochromatic: a brown linen button-down tucked into a pair of pleated trousers, styled with black ankle boots. ⁠

7. “This fall I want to sew more __________”⁠
I always say that I need to sew more outerwear, but pants inevitably end up at the top of my queue. Still, I’m hoping to make a couple of jackets while the weather’s cool. ⁠

8. Statement fabric or statement buttons?⁠
For me, making a statement is about achieving a garment that is high quality and professional looking. My fabric and button selections are probably more subtle than statement – but always carefully considered.⁠

9. Solids or prints?⁠
At least 95% of my wardrobe is solids.⁠

10. Denim or Corduroy?⁠
Denim, no contest.

1. How long have you been sewing, and what is your best sewing advice to others?⁠
Over 50 years!!! And I still wake up every morning looking forward to the next project. My advice to others is to accept mistakes- and embrace the do-over.⁠

2. What are you most excited to sew for fall?⁠
Separates.⁠
⁠
3. What is your favorite fall fabric to work with? ⁠
I love working with wool- it’s malleable, forgiving, and, as a natural fiber, it has great temperature-regulating features.⁠

4. What fabric(s) from the new Style Maker Fabrics Fall collection immediately caught your eye, and why?⁠
The corduroy immediately caught my eye because it feels so autumnal and cozy, and as a solid, it has great textural interest. ⁠
⁠
5. If you could design your fall wardrobe around a certain color palette, what would it be? ⁠
This year, I am leaning toward earth tones, although I would punch them up with burgundy and blue as accents.⁠
⁠
6. If you could create your perfect handmade fall outfit, what fabrics and patterns would you use? ⁠
Corduroy is the textural, cozy fall centerpiece, and I would add wool. I am leaning toward solids, but I want to add some plaid for punch.⁠

We are blown away by Kaci from Kaci Apple fall outfits! She sewed The Coe trousers from DAUGHTER JUDY with the Fabric Godmother Ace Animal Print Denim in Brown, The Ilford by Friday Pattern Company , and The Playback Skort from LES PERLINES ✿ SEWING PATTERNS with the Soft Sueded Scuba Knit Solid in Chestnut fabric.

Let’s get to know Kaci:

1. How long have you been sewing, and what is your best sewing advice to others?
I have been sewing with my Mom and my Nana since my earliest memories. My Nana was a quilter and would take me to quilting circle with all her friends while she kept me during the day. I also remember sewing Disney costumes with my mom when I was 5.
My advice would be to resist the urge to speed thru projects. Instead slow down. It’s slow fashion for a reason. I have found the quality of my making increase so much just by slowing down and really concentrating on getting the details right. That way you don’t need to fully finish a project to feel a sense of accomplishment. Instead you can feel that satisfaction with completing each step in a project well.

2. What are you most excited to sew for fall?
Jackets! I really want to explore sewing different styles of outerwear. It’s so much fun, and it encompasses a lot of different techniques, so I don’t feel bored.

3. What is your favorite fall fabric to work with?
Denim! It’s so versatile! I’ve found that a lot are intimidated by denim until they try it! It’s such a great fabric to work with. It’s not slippery. It presses well. It doesn’t move around on the sewing machine. And you can get such clean crisp lines. It’s definitely a favorite for me.

4. If you could design your fall wardrobe around a certain color palette, what would it be?
Earth Tones!

5. If you could create your perfect handmade fall outfit, what fabrics and patterns would you use?
My perfect fall outfit is 90s rom-com coded. Meg Ryan in New York in the Fall. Think chunky knits, corduroy, wool trousers, straight-leg jeans, loafers, boots, long coats, plaid skirts, turtlenecks, button-downs, soft scarves, and warm earthy colors. It feels put together but never overly styled.
