On Saturday, August 8, we lost one of the literary giants of speculative fiction. John Crowley, author of Little,Big passed away. Born in 1942 in Maine, Crowley published The Deep, Engine Summer, and Beasts in the 1970s. In 1981, he expanded the horizons of the genre with Little,Big and changed the face of American Fantasy. Little,Big won the World Fantasy Award. Crowley wrote non-fiction, specifically the spoken text for NFL documentary films. His later works included Dar Oakley in the Ruins of Ymir. Crowley was also a stable presence online and at the Massachusetts convention ReaderCon, and was an open, generous person to talk to. He leaves behind a rich legacy, and will be deeply missed.
