Before you get to planting those soon-to-be delicious vegetables, be sure you have all the right materials you need for a successful and productive fall veggie season. 🍅 Here are 3 products we recommend to help your veggie garden thrive!

Bio Tone Starter Plus 🌱

This is an organic planting amendment that features beneficial bacteria along with mychorrhizal fungi that enhance plant growth.

The mychorrhizal fungi work with the plants root system to open up channels for the plant to take water and nutrients from the soil. This results in a larger more robust plant with more blooms!

We cannot recommend this product enough — it’s great at getting veggie plants established and thrive in our hot, humid climate.

Black Gold Natural & Organic Flower & Vegetable Soil🍅

This organic soil mix is formulated to provide essential nutrients for vegetable plants. Add it to existing raised beds to improve the soil or use it directly in the ground by amending with the native soil creating a 50/50 mix.

Grow Big💪

This 6-4-4 liquid fertilizer promotes lush vegetative growth by enhancing plant size and structure, allowing more fruit, flower, and bud development.

Use this fertilizer weekly in your veggie garden.

Do you remember The Letter People?

If you went to preschool or kindergarten in the 1970s or 1980s, you probably do. At my elementary school, our classrooms were decorated with Letter People posters. Bright, colorful, slightly strange characters that somehow made learning the alphabet memorable.

I hadn’t thought about Letter People in years. Then my sister, who teaches preschool, sent me pictures from a book she is using with her students. And there they were again. It was like opening a little time capsule from kindergarten. If I remember correctly, once you went through the alphabet, you started combining the letters and in the accompanying videos the letter people would line up to form words and sort of bump into each other as you sounded out each letter. Like da – aw – guh. D-o-g. (I hope you are doing the pronunciation with me right now 😊 )

Get excited — new seeds are here!! 🌱

Whether you’re looking for flowers, veggies, herbs, or varieties you have yet to grow, we’ve got you covered!

But before you get to planting, let us refresh your memory on starting seeds:

•Decide if you’re starting your seeds indoors or directly sowing them. This depends on the time of year and what seeds you are planting

•Water gently, making sure the stream isn’t washing away the seeds. Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.💧

•Determine the depth you’re planting your seeds at. A good rule of thumb: smaller seeds are planted closer to the surface, larger seeds are planted deeper. This will be listed on your specific seed packet.📏

•Be sure seedlings are receiving appropriate amounts of sunlight so they can grow nice and strong! ☀️

Seeds vary, so always be sure to check your seed packet for specific measurements.

I found the end of the rainbow the other day. It was at the MLK exit off of I-4. Maybe you saw the same rainbow. It was sooo bright in the sky.

We were out at rowing practice when some serious looking thunderstorms began to creep in, but because they never quite made it to our location what we ended up with instead was a stunning rainbow that appeared across the sky. Not one of those faint little rainbows you squint at to see all the colors. This was an all the way across the sky, super-bright, dazzling display of color where you could without question see each hue - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet painted across the sky.

And so, of course, we did what anyone would do. We followed it with thoughts of a pot of gold in our heads. We watched it stretch across the sky as we headed home, and it felt like it was a heavenly overpass that we were attempting to drive under. From our vantage point, it looked like it was moving with us. It was one of those simple little moments that somehow made an ordinary day feel extraordinary…
