August Checklist
1) Keep Azaleas, Hydrangeas and Camellias watered well for bud development for next year.
2) Deadhead 'Limelight' and ' Endless Summer' Hydrangeas for more blooms.
3) Keep hanging baskets and other container plants watered.
4) Prune 1/3 of rose bushes to keep healthy and actively growing.
5) Plant turnip seeds.
6) Look out for chinch bugs and armyworms in the lawn.
7) Keep hummingbird feeders cleaned and filled.
8) Lightly prune non-flowering shrubs now (to shape.) Don't wait until late fall to prune, shrubs will put on new growth that will get killed by the cold. A light pruning now will give the plants time to toughen up before winter.
9) A deep soaking (1 inch of water) on the lawn is enough for one week.
10) Divide Iris, Daylilies and daisies.
11) Watch for yellow, splotchy leaves this indicate spider mites.
12) Do yard work early before the sun gets too high and temperatures become unbearable.

These Boxwoods are in front of Four Seasons. About the middle of February they are trimmed pretty hard, before they put on new spring growth.
From February until now they have put on a lot of growth. I trimmed them a little to reshape the plants. This can be done until the first of August. This will be the last pruning until February.
Don't prune any shrub in late fall, this will only produce new growth that will get killed by the first hard frost.
This information is for evergreen plants that don't bloom.
For blooming shrubs, do research on the timing for pruning.

The new sign has confused a few people.
We are open year around.
The sign means that we are open June- November on the hours stated.
From June to November we close at 4:00 on Saturday. As opposed to closing at 5:00.

July Checklist!

-Avoid wetting the foliage of roses and vegetables to control disease.
- Prune tips of blueberries to control height. Trim muscadine vines slightly to keep them away from the lawn mower.
- Apply granular insecticide to St. Augustine lawns to kill chinch bugs.
- Cut back leggy annuals and fertilize with Jack's Classic Bloom Booster.
- Prune 1/3 of rose bushes to encourage bushy growth. Keep sprayed for diseases.
- Shape non-flowering shrubs (Boxwoods, Hollies, Ligustrums) this will be the last pruning till next February.
- The Three 'T's' of pruning

- Prune Mophead, Lacecap and Oakleaf Hydrangeas before August.
- Plant Collard seeds.
- Check moisture of container plantings and hanging baskets daily.
- Keep w**ds in the lawn and shrub beds under control. Every w**d that produces seed mean troublesome w**ds next year.
- If container plants are in full sun move them out of afternoon sun to reduce the need to water so much.
- When going on vacation move container plants to the shade. They won't dry out as quickly in a shady spot.
- Prune Gardenias now
