What makes a person want to hunt with a bow is the challenge and the feeling you get when you harvest something in that primitive way. Bow hunting from the very beginning was about stepping back to the simplest terms of a man and his prey. What we enjoy as traditional bow hunters is getting close to those animals, that’s the thrill of bow hunting, a bull elk screaming in your face in why we go bow hunting, that’s what gets your blood pumping. As a sport it demands respect, it demands time, and effort, and learning and listening to all the people who have done it before you. It’s what I have learned from my dad and it’s what I am passing down. The pioneers of our sport fought so hard to give us bow seasons. It was about stopping technology in its tracks. Do I think there’s a limit to how far we got with archery gear, absolutely, there is definitely a limit. With the new technologies that are being developed, I know people that can take a compound bow out, and at 100yds outshoot someone shooting a 30-30. That takes away from what archery is supposed to be. Honestly it has went too far already. Pretty soon you’re going to see a lot shorter seasons than we have right now. An if technology goes any further, you might as well go r***e hunting because it amounts to about the same thing. Don’t rely on your equipment to take a 60yd to 100yd with your bow, sure it can do it, but what does that say about you as a hunter, not much really because you didn’t out smart that animal at that point. It’s getting so technical anymore that it’s taking most of the challenge out of it. It’s been a badge of honor to be a bow hunter. You had to get out there and work and learn as much about the animals to get that close. That’s the thrill of bow hunting is the patience it takes to make that one opportunity a year happen. And it’s so rewarding when it does because you know more than anybody how hard you worked to get that opportunity and the steps it took. It’s a sense of accomplishment to just don’t get anywhere else. Help us Protect Our Seasons, Preserve Our Heritage and Honor Our Values.
