Every store in Sewickley Village seems to have a candle now.
They sit beside the coffee-table books and the linen napkins, styled into little scenes that make you want the whole room. Most were made somewhere else, packed into cartons, shipped across the country and eventually unpacked onto a shelf here.
Somewhere along the way, that started counting as shopping local.
Bean Candle Co. works a little differently.
The candles on our shelves are made here. The wax is poured here. The wicks are chosen and tested here. Scents are burned again and again until they smell as good across a room as they did the first time you unboxed it.
Because handmade was never supposed to mean amateur.
It should mean someone cared enough to get the details right.
A candle that smells exceptional when it is lit. A scent that actually fills the room. A long, clean burn. A simple white vessel that looks like it belongs in your house instead of advertising itself from the coffee table.
That is the standard, whether we make twelve candles or twelve hundred of them.
So yes, shop local.
But the next time you pick up a candle in Sewickley, turn it over and see where it came from.
There is a difference between buying a candle in Sewickley and buying a candle made in Sewickley.
Come in and smell the difference for yourself.
