The pre spawn largemouth bite treated us well with decent numbers and some big fish. 7 half day outings produced 4 over 20”, a 21”, and 2 at 22”. Unfortunately a detached retina ended my season for a while. Hopefully I’ll be back on the water next week.

I’m done ice fishing and prepping for open water. May is prime time for trophy largemouths here in the north.

Sculpins inhabit many bodies of water. Gamefish such as smallmouth bass and lake trout will prey on them. They resemble gobies so goby inspired plastics work well in lakes where they are common.

Today's fishing tip

Get off the beaten path. Remote waters get less pressure and can maintain mature fish populations. Yesterday's trip included at least 7 miles of paddling and 6 miles of
portaging. I still enjoy the physical part of getting to places others aren't willing to go.
