The walleyes were holding 16–17 feet down, and with the lake so calm, I wanted to get the LEJ 4.5 Beanster away from the boat. I ran the lure back 50 feet, added a ¾-ounce snap weight, then sent it back another 50 feet before attaching the planer board. That 50/50 setup put the Beanster right in the strike zone—and away from the boat where those walleyes felt comfortable! 🎣

🎣 Western Basin Fishing Report

The better fish in the Western Basin have been coming right off the bottom.

We’ve been running Tru-Trip 40s at 135 feet back and size 0 Dipsys at 60 feet back. Six-foot, 15-pound fluorocarbon leaders paired with chrome-backed spoons and LEJ 4.5s have been producing a steady pick.

Stay close to the bottom and keep grinding—they’re down there! 🎣

We had to get ’em down low tonight, and the LEJ 4.5 in 6-7 was the hot ticket! 🎣 My daughter Phoebe put it to work and landed this nice Lake Erie walleye!

This setup has been putting fish in the boat! 🎣 We’ve been running the LEJ 4.5s behind Dipsy Divers or Tru-Trip 40s with 6-foot fluorocarbon leaders, keeping those baits just off the bottom. They’ve been hammering them.

If you’ve been marking fish down low but struggling to get them to go, this combination is worth a try.
