Today, we pause to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We remember the courage of the first responders, the resilience of our nation, and the unity that carried us through one of the most difficult days in American history.

At SafetyTest & Equipment Co., Inc., we are especially grateful for those who continue to serve and protect our communities every day. Their dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Twenty-five years ago this week, 412 emergency workers gave their lives at the World Trade Center and thousands more would develop serious illnesses from the toxic exposure that followed.

September 11th wasn't just a national tragedy. It was a turning point for emergency response safety. The health consequences faced by Ground Zero responders many of whom worked for weeks without adequate respiratory protection exposed critical gaps in how we equip and protect the people who run toward danger.

In the aftermath, OSHA created Specialized Response Teams, rewrote the National Emergency Management Plan, developed the Disaster Site Worker Training Program, and mandated routine respirator fit-testing for emergency responders.
Every improvement in emergency PPE, every respiratory protection program, every interagency safety protocol traces part of its origin to the lessons learned and the lives lost on that day.

We remember. And we keep building on their legacy.

OSHA's Lockout/Tagout StandardThis week in 1989, OSHA issued one of the most impactful safety standards in American history: the Lockout/Tagout rule (29 CFR 1910.147).Before LOTO, workers servicing machinery had no guaranteed federal protection against unexpected startup, energization, or release of stored energy. The consequences were devastating — amputations, crush injuries, electrocution, and death.Since taking effect in 1990, the LOTO standard is estimated to prevent 120 deaths and 50,000 injuries every year, protecting over 3 million workers who service equipment.For utility and electrical workers, energy isolation is a daily discipline — not just a regulation.
