For the first time since 1951, the 1225 (The Polar Express), returned to its former home in Saginaw for a visit.
The historic Pere Marquette 1225 was shuttled by a Huron and Eastern locomotive as it came through Durand on its way to Saginaw. Seeing steam drifting through the air past Durand Union Station was an incredible site to see. Truly a blast from the past!
The excursion does not appear to have been widely publicized, but the site of it in Durand will be a lasting memory for those lucky enough to catch it.
Always amazing when unexpected rail history rolls right through town! 🚂
