The merchants of the recently rebuilt Davis Mercantile welcome you. Throughout our four floors, you are sure to come across some interesting finds at 22 inviting shops. Throughout the Mercantile, you will find home accents, apparel, and Amish-inspired specialty foods such as fresh, hot pretzels and an endless variety of confectionery and baked goods. tzel Carousel with hand-carved farm animals and, at the center of the grand staircase, the trunk of a Douglas Fir nearly four centuries old.

Some deliveries come in cardboard boxes. The Mercantile's iconic Douglas Fir came on a semi trailer, with a packing slip that simply read: “large log.”

As the Davis Mercantile was being rebuilt after the fire in 2004, our massive Douglas Fir arrived from Kin Basket Lake in British Columbia. It weighed in at 18,000 pounds, 56 feet long, 44 inches across, and more than 370 years old.

Next time you visit, take a moment to look up at the Douglas Fir and appreciate this 370-year-old piece of history, standing right here in the heart of Shipshewana. Read more about the Douglas Fir: https://www.davismercantile.com/the-big-tree
