Listening to the news of invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, I was heartbroken. Growing up with a Croatian/Slovenian grandfather and a Hungarian grandmother who played the traditional music and taught us the folk dances, I loved the richly embroidered folk costumes - and knew many had been destroyed in the war in the early 90’s. It is very rare now to see former Yugoslavian folk costumes. I could not help but think of this when Ukraine was invaded. Though they are distinctly regional there are many similarities through the Slavic cultures. I purchased these on March 8, 2022 from a young woman in Ukraine never knowing if I would receive the box! I did - 2 months later. An act of faith and a small miracle. I received a few times more over these last years. Always a miracle to receive a box so full of ingenious handiwork! Beautifully embroidered and hand stitched antique vyshyvankas made from homespun and hand loomed h**p, linen and cotton. Coming to this Saturday, April 4th.
