A brief practice session while in New Zealand visiting family. Spending more time with the finer tipped flat graver, and I'm enjoying the delicate look for the flowing vines. I'll continue adding to it until it's filled in the full length of the headjoint.

Finished this repair today. A gold plated Conn Flute came in with a group of instruments from a local High School. It was missing the crown, so I turned one on the lathe. My knurling skills need a bit more practice, but it does the job. Polished and a clear coat of lacquer to keep it looking fresh. I didn't get a lot of progress pics.

It's been an incredibly busy summer, working through school repairs. I had been wanting to put together a small sample piece to break in some new gravers I had sitting at the bench. Tried adding a fill in for the background with a liner. As always, I find the small detail I like best. This time, it's the letter 'S'. I'm quite happy with how it came out.

I was asked about doing a particular design on the inside of a trombone flare. This was the practice run. Turned out looking really good. This was the first time I have done a cross hatched fill for the background. I like the effect!

Another cover up project. Here we have a school's King Tuba that someone had decided to vandalize with racial slurs and scratches. I chose to adapt the flowers found on vintage King Super 20 saxes. I think it turned out great, definitely a large piece!

We had a stock trombone sent in with some intentional scratches. It included an offensive symbol. The cover up went pretty well, it's a bit tough to get right up to the bell rim. The end result is a nice floral design that hides enough of the scratches, and makes for a fairly unique student Yamaha Trombone.
