Additionally, she invented the nearly-natural breast prosthesis called “Nearly Me”.

Katia Krafft was a pioneering female volcanologist conducting dangerous fieldwork alongside her husband Maurice to document volcanic eruptions worldwide. Her groundbreaking footage and research significantly advanced our understanding of volcanic hazards and helped save countless lives through improved public awareness and safety protocols. Her courage, dedication to science, and tragic death in the line of duty during the 1991 Mount Unzen eruption.

Josephine Butler is known for leading the successful campaign to repeal the Contagious Diseases Acts, which had subjected women to forced medical examinations and violated their civil liberties in Victorian Britain. She was a pioneering advocate for women’s education and suffrage, helping to establish institutions that expanded opportunities for women at a time when they were systematically excluded from public life. Additionally, Butler worked internationally to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable women, founding the International Abolitionist Federation and establishing a global network of women’s rights activists that influenced reform movements across Europe.

Carson McCullers is an American author known for her groundbreaking literary contributions that gave voice to marginalized and isolated individuals in the American South, challenging conventional gender and social norms of her era. Exploring themes of loneliness, identity, and human connection with a psychological depth that was rare for women writers of her time.

Jennifer Doudna is the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry since 2009 (awarded in 2020), she broke significant barriers in a field historically dominated by men, inspiring countless young women to pursue careers in STEM. She is know for co-developing CRISPR-Cas9, a revolutionary gene-editing technology that has transformed biomedical research and holds promise for treating genetic diseases. Her ongoing advocacy for ethical guidelines around gene editing demonstrates leadership beyond scientific achievement, showing how women scientists can shape responsible innovation for society’s benefit.

Flannery O’Connor should be honored during Women’s History Month for being one of the most influential American writers of the 20th century, producing groundbreaking Southern Gothic fiction that challenged literary conventions while navigating a male-dominated publishing world as a woman in the 1940s-50s. Despite dying young at age 39 from lupus, she left behind two novels and numerous short stories that continue to shape American literature, demonstrating remarkable artistic achievement despite the physical and social limitations placed on women of her era. Her unflinching portrayal of complex female characters and her willingness to explore difficult moral and spiritual themes expanded what women writers were expected to address, paving the way for future generations of female authors to tackle challenging subject matter with depth and integrity.

Blurb - War. People love the clean version of war. Simple motivations, clear victories, and neat endings, but that version is a mirage.

Candid, darkly funny, and deeply researched, with historical letters, dozens of photographs, and extensive citations, this isn’t a sanitized narrative, and it isn’t pushing an agenda. If you want the truth, as close as ink can get, welcome to the sand.
