There’s something special about seeing a finished design with fresh eyes.

After bringing the original Field Lines Shawl to the Fargo Fiber Arts Festival this weekend, I found myself noticing one little detail I’d almost forgotten—the simple slip-stitch texture that runs through the design.

It reminded me of an idea I’d been carrying around for months: a cozy kerchief-style headscarf.

So before we even left for Fargo, I cast on something new.

It’s called Soft Days, and it feels like the quiet little sister to Field Lines. Knit with a single skein of fingering-weight yarn (or leftovers from your shawl), it’s designed to be simple, timeless, and perfect for those in-between seasons.

I’m putting the finishing touches on the pattern now, and tomorrow I’ll be opening the call for test knitters!

Why we started Skein & Co 🤍

Over time, I kept noticing the same thing—
so many incredibly talented indie dyers and fiber makers doing beautiful work…
and still struggling to be seen.

Not because the work wasn’t good.
But because the systems around them weren’t built for small makers.

Skein & Co was created as a response to that.

A quieter, more intentional space where indie fiber can be discovered and supported.

After finishing my first sashiko piece last week, I’m starting again—but with a few small changes.

This time, I’m making a simple greetings card and using checked fabric so I don’t have to mark the pattern (which was the hardest part for me last time).

It already feels like a much more approachable process.

Last week taught me a lot 😅

Mostly… what not to do.

So this week, I’m starting again—just a little more thoughtfully.

I’m making a small sashiko greetings card using checked fabric (so no pattern marking this time 🙌) and a few tools I picked up after finishing my first sampler.

It’s a simple project, but it feels like the right next step.

I finished my first sashiko sampler this week—and it didn’t go quite the way I expected.

I had to restart the pattern three times, the fabric made marking difficult, and the stitching felt awkward at first.

But once I found a rhythm, everything started to come together.

It ended up being a really enjoyable process, even the parts that didn’t work the first time.

I had to start this sampler three times before it finally worked.

The fabric was hard to mark.
My spacing was off.
The stitching felt awkward at first.

But somewhere around the halfway point, something shifted.

My hands found a rhythm, and the second half came together so much more easily than the first.

This week’s Something New Saturdays is up, and I’m sharing everything I learned from my first sashiko project—what worked, what didn’t, and what I’ll be changing next time.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was enough to begin.
