Slaton’s Back to School Bash Is Saturday With Free Backpacks, School Supplies, Food, Snow Cones and More for Local Families

SLATON, Texas — Slaton families looking to get their kids ready for the new school year will want to make plans for Saturday.

Slaton’s 4th Annual Back to School Bash, hosted by The 4J, is happening Saturday, August 8, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 705 West Woodrow Road in Slaton, with an afternoon packed with free resources and family fun.

Families can come out for free backpacks, school supplies, food, snow cones, popcorn, treats and more as the community comes together to help local students start the school year prepared.

For parents buying clothes, shoes and everything else that comes with back-to-school season, events like this can help take some of the pressure off while giving kids a chance to enjoy one more community celebration before heading back to class.

This is the fourth year for the Slaton event, and organizers are encouraging families throughout the area to come out, bring the kids and take advantage of what is being offered.

To answer some questions & address some gossip 🙄-
No, I am not closing.
No, I am not selling.
No, I am not selling everything cheap so I can afford to remodel the back of my shop.
I would love to remodel the back, but no amount of what I could sell at 75% off of my already cheap prices would cover the amount I’d need to do anything at all to make the walls look better.

The reasons for this sale are simple:
1 I do not like messy. If you’ve ever been to my house, you know I don’t do clutter & I don’t do messy. I certainly do not do dirty. I would not expect you to be comfortable shopping in an environment that I wouldn’t live in. I hold myself to a higher standard. There are a few things out of my control, but I will do my very best to be clean & inviting. There’s a certain level of organized that I may never be able to reach, but that’s a thrift store for ya’.
2 I had way too much.
3 I needed to clean out & start over.
This includes being choosy over the kind of donations I accept. For example, baby clothes & men’s clothes don’t often sell. I need to decide what items I can take of each type, if any.
4 Bills keep coming, & I find what I do very rewarding. I want to stay open, & I’ve always said I will stay open if 1 God doesn’t explicitly give me another direction & 2 I can pay the bills at the shop- rent, electricity, WiFi, water.. I made a promise to my family that if ever those bills have to come out of our family’s monthly income, that’s when I’ll sell or close. Thus far, that hasn’t been an issue.

After this sell, I plan to sit down & adjust my vision, seek God on His vision, choose which items I will be able to take, reorganize, deep clean, & prioritize.

I love what I do. I love that the shop & the job are mine, but the vision is Jesus’s.

Nothing has changed, & when things do, it will be for the BETTER!
