🚨 URGENT: We Need the Community’s Help 🚨

Late last night our shelter received 37 large dogs that were seized from a single household. They are safe now with us, but the sudden intake has pushed our facility completely to capacity.

💪 Our staff are some of the best around and working tirelessly to care for all of our animals.

As the largest open-admission shelter in Virginia, we cannot close our doors. We must continue to keep space available for:

• Stray animals from our Animal Control partners
• Lost pets brought in that are waiting to be reunited with their families
• Owners who need to surrender pets during emergencies or life changes

Right now, every kennel is full — and we need your help to keep space open for the next animal who needs us. 🐕

🐾 Foster a dog

Opening your home, even temporarily, frees up critical kennel space. Short-term fosters make a huge impact.

Email [email protected] and tell us a little bit about your household and we can find you a match! Many of our dogs will be on our adoption floor looking for foster homes this weekend.

🐾 Found a stray dog?

If you are able, consider holding the animal temporarily while we help you locate the owner. Most lost pets are found close to home and reunite quickly when neighbors share posts. Please file a found report with [email protected]

Each time someone fosters, adopts, or helps hold a stray safely, it opens a kennel for the next animal who has nowhere else to go.

This community has stepped up for animals time and time again, and we’re hoping you’ll rally once more. 💙💙

Notice to the Public: Our dedicated Animal Control Officers will be performing welfare checks and providing essential resources during the weekend.
We urge you to ensure your animal’s safety by providing adequate shelter during the storm.
Should you or someone else you know require assistance, we have resources available including straw, food, and dog houses. To access these services, please follow the outlined procedure:

We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We sure did and are very thankful for family, friends, and great customers! We hope you are getting in the holiday spirit. We have decided to have a holiday blowout special! Look for red clearance items in the boutique starting today. We have to make room and thought it was a great idea to move merchandise! By the way, Christmas is only 27 days away! 🎄

TIME CHANGE

Join us at 10am this Thursday to celebrate the opening of the Cypress Creek Bridge to two-way traffic! Walk with friends and neighbors from Smithfield Station to the Red Point side. Give folks high fives. Wave some pom poms. Cry with joy if you need to. If you can't make the celebration in person, it will be live streamed on the Town's Facebook and YouTube pages.

Starting at 10:30am, car traffic will be open and then you can drive back and forth to reduce your commute, to spend time in our charming small town, or just for funsies.

Please note that the bridge will be completely closed from 9-10:30am.
