You guys doing these 4473 Suppressors… yeah, good luck with that! Everyone tried to tell you so!?
THE $200 TAX STAMP IS DEAD.
And somehow, in peak government fashion, we replaced it with a membership card, a federal injunction, a 4473, a Form 3, an NFRTR headache, and a giant “good luck crossing state lines” asterisk.
My favorite part?
The same suppressor being advertised as a 4473-only transfer probably got to the dealer on a fu***ng Form 3.
You really cannot make this s**t up.
The organizations fighting these cases deserve a massive amount of credit. They spent the time, money, and legal resources to kick a serious hole in the NFA framework, and they deserve to be applauded for it.
Now comes the part where the fi****ms industry needs to stop measuring dicks for five minutes, get in the same damn room, and push Congress to finish the job.
Because this mess cannot depend forever on injunctions, agency guidance, organizational memberships, or whether we happen to have a friendly ATF Director.
And yes, I cannot believe I’m saying this either, but I’ve exchanged messages with Director Cekada via Twitter/X, listened to him on several podcasts, and from everything I’ve seen, the guy genuinely seems to be trying to clean up the mess.
So apparently I’m publicly defending the Director of the ATF now.
My, my, my... how the world has changed.
But Cekada cannot repeal an Act of Congress.
There are three branches of government. Apparently this needs to be explained to portions of the internet.
If you’re pi**ed about the NFA, the interstate problems, the SOT inventory mess, or the fact that your legal protection can currently depend on which fi****ms organization you belong to, quit screaming exclusively at ATF and start screaming at the House and Senate.
Because the real question isn’t just what happens under Cekada today.
What happens in 2029 if Washington changes hands and a new administration comes in with an aggressive anti-gun agenda?
That’s why this needs to be fixed legislatively while we have momentum.
At minimum, get suppressors, SBRs, and SBSs the hell out of the NFA.
And before everybody starts yelling at the FFL who isn’t immediately doing 4473-only suppressor transfers, remember that most of us want to see this garbage dismantled too.
We just happen to have federal licenses hanging on the wall while the courts, ATF, DOJ, Congress, and the fi****ms industry figure out what the hell the new rules actually are.
Now for my other favorite part:
If I can somehow convince the internet experts to survive a roughly 20-minute blog rant before their attention spans detonate, I fully expect the comment section to get absolutely returded.
For the unfamiliar, “returd” is what happens when a dog eats cat s**t and later deposits the recycled product somewhere else.
Online, it’s basically the same process.
Consume a terrible take somewhere else, partially digest it, then come s**t it back out in my comment section like it’s original research.
So please, internet constitutional scholars, Facebook attorneys, and guys whose legal education consists of screenshots and memes:
Come one, come all.
Just read the whole fu***ng article first so we can at least argue about the same thing.
And look, I’m just a dude with a fi****ms shop in his basement in a town of about 5,000 people, with a basset hound named Hank who is currently engaged in an open war with the Forest Syndicate.
I really shouldn’t be the guy giving Washington a fu***ng civics lesson.
And I definitely shouldn’t be giving the fi****ms industry a TED Talk about putting the whole “my dick is bigger than your dick” routine away and actually unifying around something we all agree on.
Yet here we are.
