Fitness Rehab case

I had the pleasure of working with Olliver from April through August. He had been dropping weight since being out of work over the winter. He had also been shipped from New Hampshire to Spokane WA, then to here in Snohomish WA.

After extensive vet work & testing, it was determined he was in great health and is the type of horse that requires work to maintain his body condition (so different than the quarter horses that stay fat on air!).

I was scratching my head a bit after only 4 weeks of work with Olliver but his owner encouraged me to keep going regardless of how slow his progress seemed to be. I really don't want to be taking up client's time & money without getting results. Improvement is not linear and results also just take the time it takes. Working with Olliver was an excellent reminder of that! At the 6 week mark is when he started to bloom. All exercise work was done in hand!

Olliver & his owner now call New Jersey home and are working together towards their dressage goals!

Her message to me is from when she flew out to see him around the halfway mark 🤗

Time to start planning for the PNW Omoksee at Snohomish County Western Games Association - SCWGA !

I will be there all day Friday thru Sunday taking care of your horses! Oct 2-4

🌪and BY POPULAR DEMAND - I will have the TheraPlate available for your use as well! I will have it set up inside at my booth during the day for human use, and will set it up in one of the barns in the mornings and evenings for horse use.

Seeing everyone's back-to-school photos got me excited to update you all on my education too!

I constantly receive questions from people looking for an osteopath (I only recently learned of a veterinary osteopath on the peninsula).

So, I decided to take the plunge and become an equine osteopath myself! I'm looking forward to being able to serve the community in this way!

Working within my scope as a licensed large animal massage practitioner, I'll be utilizing specific stretches and other techniques to restore balance in the body, allowing it to heal itself.

This past spring I got accepted into the London College of Animal Osteopathy equine program! I have two more sections of preclinicals before starting hands-on work, and then I have a thesis to write 📚

First & third photos are looking at the backside (palmar aspect) of the distal forelimb.

The Suspensory ligament runs down the cannon bone between the two splint bones. Just past the splint bones, it then splits into two branches and ends up wrapping towards the front of the leg, inserting at the sesamoid bones and the common digital extensor tendon.

The purpose of the Suspensory ligament is to "suspend" the fetlock, acting as a sling to prevent overextension of the fetlock joint.

Here is another view of the Deep Digital Flexor Tendon (DDFT) and the Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon (SDFT).

You can also see a great view of the Suspensory Ligament along the cannon bone and how it branches to either side.

One of the neatest facts about distal limb anatomy is the relationship between the Deep Digital Flexor Tendon (DDFT) and the Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon (SDFT).

Did you know they share a tendon sheath like this?
