Corddry Crossing Hobbies is proud to offer a special custom-run Pennsylvania Railroad boxcar honoring Operation Beaver, a real PRR improvement campaign launched in 1963.

Operation Beaver was created during the final years of the Pennsylvania Railroad as a broad effort to improve the appearance of the railroad’s stations, passenger facilities, and equipment. The program focused on cleaning, painting, repairing, and improving railroad property, helping present a cleaner, better-maintained image to the traveling public.

To promote the campaign, the PRR used distinctive Operation Beaver artwork and promotional materials, including posters and buttons featuring the beaver theme. The beaver was a fitting symbol for the program, representing hard work, construction, persistence, and improvement.

This CCH custom run brings that lesser-known piece of Pennsylvania Railroad history to O Scale. Rather than simply creating another standard PRR freight car, this release is designed as a commemorative tribute to the real Operation Beaver campaign, combining the traditional Pennsylvania Railroad Keystone with the distinctive Operation Beaver logo.

The cars will use MTH Electric Trains’ Premier O Scale 40' AAR boxcar tooling and will feature two PRR road numbers inspired by the railroad’s X37 series:
PRR 65613
PRR 65417

Both numbers fall within the prototype PRR X37 numbering series, helping maintain a historically believable appearance while giving the cars a unique commemorative identity.

For Pennsylvania Railroad collectors, this release represents an unusual and often-overlooked chapter of PRR history. Operation Beaver was more than a slogan—it was a real railroad-wide effort to improve the appearance of the Pennsylvania Railroad during the 1960s, and this custom run is intended to preserve that story in model form.
