Ever notice how some oil paintings have that satisfying raised texture on the highlights, while the rest of the canvas stays smooth and controlled? That's not an accident — it's sequencing.

Most painters treat every layer the same way from start to finish, and that's usually what leads to muddy underpainting or flat, lifeless highlights. The better approach: start thin, finish thick.

In the early stages, a thinner, more controlled application helps you build the composition without fighting the paint. A small amount of NeutralThin #125 reduces consistency for lighter, more transparent coverage while you're still working things out.
