Beautyberry
A Native Beauty Worth Growing!

Have you ever spotted those gorgeous clusters of bright purple berries growing along roadsides and woodland edges? Meet Florida Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana)!

This beautiful Florida native is more than just a pretty plant. Those vibrant berries are a favorite food for birds and wildlife, making Beautyberry a wonderful addition to a wildlife-friendly garden. 🐦🦋

🌱 HOW TO GROW FLORIDA BEAUTYBERRY

☀️ Light: Plant in full sun to partial shade. More sun generally means more flowers and berries, while afternoon shade can be helpful in our hot Florida summers.

💧 Water: Water regularly while young, especially during dry periods. Once established, Beautyberry is fairly drought tolerant.

🌱 Soil: It isn't fussy! Beautyberry can grow in a variety of soils as long as the soil drains reasonably well.

📏 Space: Give it room to grow. Beautyberry can become a large, spreading shrub — often around 5–8 feet tall and wide, depending on growing conditions.

✂️ Pruning: Beautyberry flowers and produces berries on new growth. For a fuller, more manageable plant, prune it back in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

💜 Want more plants? Beautyberry can be propagated from seeds or cuttings. Birds also help spread the seeds naturally!

🐦 Wildlife bonus: Leave those beautiful berry clusters on the plant and watch for birds coming in for a feast!
