Narratology

Narratology Narratology: Because everyone has a story. As an author, I've spent the last 15 years immersed in stories. Mr. Rogers kept this quote in his wallet.

Non-profit retail enterprise where all items sold are ethically made and 100% of our net profits are donated to charities who share our values. As someone who takes the words of Jesus seriously, I understand that I have an obligation to love my neighbor as myself, and that includes my buying habits. It isn't loving if the purchases I make harm others through low wages, forced labor, dangerous work

ing conditions, and family separation. Benedictine nun and peacemaker Mary Lou Kownacki once said, "There isn’t anyone you couldn’t love once you’ve heard their story." I try to remember these words in my writing and daily living. And that's the mission of Narratology - to tell the stories of others through the products we sell. Many of those items are from social enterprises around the world, providing living wages for skilled artisans, refugees, and at-risk women. We also offer items the are handmade by artists and small family businesses who share our values. Every item is carefully curated. One hundred percent of our net profits from online sales are given to story-shaping organizations both in the United States and abroad. When you partner with us through your purchases, you, too, become part of a larger story - one of family preservation and job security, of education and clean water, of fair wages and ethical work environments. A story of justice and hope and care for others.

Mother's Day gifts? We got 'em!

If you're looking for a gift that gives back, please consider Narratology. Not only are you giving ethically made and fair trade, but most of our goods are women- and mother-made, so you're supporting mothers everywhere.

Plus, everything is still 40% off. We want fair trade to be available to everyone.

I've been a long-time reader of Henri Nouwen, and an admirer of his work and his heart for others.

When I think about .gives these are things I consider. The artisans we support are judged by these lies. And you, friends and customers, may also feel the weight of these words.

As a follower of Jesus (and yes, I know that admission is fraught in these days and times), I firmly hold to Imago Dei, the belief that all people are made in the image and likeness of God. This (I hope!) comes through in the mission of Narratology, as well as in my work as a writer (my editorial feedback almost always includes notes about how compassionately I render my characters), and my interactions with the world at large.

Please remember:

You are NOT what you have.
You are NOT what you do.
You are NOT what others say about you.

You, my friends and supporters, are fearfully and wonderfully made. You are seen, and loved, and allowed to be who you are-without excuses or questions or expectations.

With much love in a time of chaos,

Christa

Anyone who has the patience to make such intricate beaded jewelry is amazing to me. I lack not only the patience but also the fine motor skills. (You should see my handwriting...or not...I had teachers tell me in school, "I can't believe a girl writes like this.")

Anyway, if you love seed bead jewelry, these two pieces are just two examples of what we have available at Narratology.

And yes, everything is still 40% off for the holidays. Thank you to everyone who has ordered this far - we're so glad fair trade can be a part of your giving traditions!

It's Small Business Saturday!

As I packed and sent out orders this past week, I was so heartened to see that all of them were to repeat customers.

Some who discovered us when we were a small brick-and-mortar store in Kentucky.

Some who were online friends who have become friends I know I could contact if I needed someone to talk to.

Some who discovered us through word-of-mouth, but who have stayed and continue to order.

Yes, I'd love new people to find us and buy, but Narratology continues to exist because our supporters keep coming back for our fair trade and ethically made goods. They care about our mission and vision. And that feels good because it's always wonderful to find folks who share the same values.

So, yes, today I am thankful for all of you, because without our loyal friends and customers, Narratology wouldn't be here.

If you love your earrings a little bit bigger and bolder, these lovelies from might be for you!

The brass earrings were made by an artisan group from the slums of Nairobi, Kenya; the clay earrings were handcrafted in the USA by a refugee artisan.
