LOCAL “CASH MOB” - NOVEMBER 24, 2012 - MADE IN LAKE TAHOE, USA
November 24th is “Small Business Saturday”. This is a nationally organized day dedicated to supporting small businesses in your community. A local “Cash Mob” is being organized that same day! A “Cash Mob” is a social media organized event where a community gets together to shop at and support a locally owned business that is struggling to keeps it doors open. This Saturday, a few dedicated local artists are inviting the South Lake Tahoe community to come and support Made In Lake Tahoe. This unique gift shop features handmade items from 90 local artists. These artists are a part of our community and will benefit from your support, as well as, the shop itself. Located in the Raley’s Shopping Center at Stateline, Made In Lake Tahoe, USA has struggled through the last year to keep serving our community.
Shop owner, Jenny Curtis, says, “The local community support has been very encouraging. Everyone loves the idea of a shop solely dedicated to our local artists and their various works. The sense of community and friendships that the shop has created are a blessing for everyone involved. But, times are tough and this last year has taken a large toll on all of my resources. ”
The artists have all agreed to postpone their October payments for their goods sold to keep the shop open through the holiday season. Everyone is working together to see it through the slow season.
Artist Sheri Togan says that the shop offers a year round venue for local artist that might not otherwise be able to display their work. It’s a great opportunity for so many of us in town to make a little extra cash.
Locals and visitors, alike, love the atmosphere and integrity of this unique shop. It is genuine and home town.
“Your community is so lucky to have a shop like this. Everything is made right here in Tahoe. Not made in China and just stamped with “Lake Tahoe”, customer, Evette Phillips from Virginia, commented.
The artists organizing the “Cash Mob” are adding their own twist. With most “Cash Mobs”, all the participants gather at one specific time to visit the store. With it being a holiday weekend and busy schedules, we are expanding the “Cash Mob” time. Please come to the shop anytime between 12:00pm and 6:00pm on Saturday! You will receive a friendly greeting with free coffee, hot chocolate and cookies! You will find “Red Dot” sales and a 10% locals discount!
