Many customers have noticed that we don't currently have any Sumatra in stock and have inquired about it. As I noted in a post earlier this year, floods in Indonesia last year wiped out a significant portion of the Sumatran coffee crop, causing a worldwide shortage. My regular suppliers have been sold out of Sumatra green coffee for months and I was lucky to find my last bag from an alternate supplier, but I'm out now and so are they.

This year's Sumatra crop is currently afloat and a small amount is hitting US ports now. It takes a while longer for Asian crops to hit Eastern ports, so my suppliers are saying it may be available by the end of the month. I've heard such things before, so I'm expecting it maybe next month.

In the meantime, if you enjoy the savory, snappy and spicy flavor of Sumatran coffee, please try our Da Lat from Vietnam. It has many of the same flavor characteristics as Sumtra and I'm betting you'll love it just as much. I'm roasting it to the same level as Sumatra too. Please give it a try! I've been enjoying it very much!

Introducing Da Lat from Mystic Coffee! Hailing from Da Lat, Vietnam, this dark roast has a clean flavor with notes of peach and green apple and nice body with a chocolate finish. It'll tickle the back of your palate, as you might expect from a great Southeast Asian coffee.

We'll be delivering a few bags to Colleen's on Tuesday, July 28, or order it now at:

Such a pretty, overlooked, native ground cover! Self-heal (Prunella vulgaris) is extraordinarily versatile. It's a clumper AND a runner and will help fill the bare spots in your flower beds. Or you can use it in a diverse lawn replacement mix. It knows how to gracefully cascade over stones in a rock garden setting or will hold its own as a flowering clump at the front of your garden bed.

It's a larval host plant for the caterpillars of the Clouded Sulphur butterfly (Colias philodice) and the Gray Marvel moth (Agriopodes teratophora), and bees and butterflies love it, so it will help support your local ecosystem.

Sun or part shade. Medium-wet soil to medium-dry. Plant it wherever!

For our native plant and seed fans: The first of our Winter sown seedlings got potted up today! Gray Dogwood, Cornus racemosa.

It's a little early to pot these up with only one seedling having two true leaves, but the container took a tumble and I was concerned about how the soil around the seedlings had landed. Three seedlings for sure and one sprout too small to identify, plus something I found below the soil surface that looks like a germinated seed 🤞. So exciting!

Maybe in another 5 10 years I'll be able to harvest seeds from these plants! 😜 In the meantime, I believe I have some other sources nearby to harvest. Stay tuned this Fall!
