We are honored to be part of Rebuild the Woods!
𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗢𝗙 𝗕𝗘𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔 𝗡𝗘𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗕𝗢𝗥. 💛
The day I got the call that Jabro Carpet One Floor & Home wanted to help Rebuild The Woods, I was excited.
They’re a local Southgate family business. They knew of my husband. It made sense to me that they would want to be involved.
So naturally, I built an entire reality around that donation in my head.
And then I actually met the people at Jabro.
I learned that Sheree, the owner, works alongside her daughters, Dana and Sarah. Of course, that immediately warmed my heart. A family working together, building something together, living life alongside one another—that’s basically my dream.
But even that turned out not to be the story.
Because the more time I spent with them, the more I realized I was watching something much quieter.
A few years before the explosion, Bob and Kathy Wood had invested some inheritance money into their home on Edison. They were preparing it for their retirement years—new flooring, updated awnings, little pieces of comfort they expected to enjoy for years to come.
And when they needed flooring, they went to Jabro.
Just down the street.
I asked Kathy why.
Her answer was wonderfully ordinary:
“𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳… 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲.”undefined
That was it.
There was no campaign.
No tragedy.
Nobody needed anything.
Times were good, the Woods needed floors, and they chose their neighbor.
Years later, when everything changed and that same neighbor learned Bob and Kathy needed help rebuilding the home those floors once lived inside—
𝗝𝗮𝗯𝗿𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸.
They are donating the flooring and materials for the Woods’ new home.
But they didn't stop there.
I get texts from Sheree telling me about another person she talked to who might help. Another resource. Another connection. Ideas for another dinner to raise funds. People who might help furnish the house.
She just keeps going.
And behind her is this family quietly standing with her.
I have become completely mesmerized watching the woman steering that ship—and the faithfulness of her family holding the line behind her to help carry their neighbors home.
Of everything I have witnessed through Rebuild The Woods, this tiny piece has stayed with me.
Because it would be so easy to miss.
Years ago, one neighbor needed something and supported another.
Years later, the need changed hands.
And so did the support.
No one planned it. Nobody called it anything. There was no expectation that what was given would ever come back.
𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿.
Thank you, Jabro Carpet One, for providing the Woods’ flooring—but even more, for choosing to stand beside them as a partner all the way home.
Their neighbor.
Our neighbor.
