If you’re holding your eyeliner pencil tip-first and trying to draw one long line across your lid — stop. 🛑Turn it on its side and press it into the base of your lashes in little dashes instead.

No floating line, no hint of skin peeking through — your lash and your liner should read as one.

Then the Flat Eye Brush by jane iredale (eye-er-dale) comes in to soften and smudge it. Twenty years in, and I still think a soft, smudgy liner is the most flattering thing you can do for a mature eye.

I was voted Best Makeup Artist in Living Magazine’s 2026 Readers’ Choice awards — and this year it happened in two markets at once: Northeast Tarrant County and Keller/Fort Worth.

Three wins now, and I still get a little quiet when I read it.
Here’s what I keep coming back to: I don’t do the loudest work. I’m not doing full glam every day or chasing whatever the internet decided we’re all wearing this month. 👉I’m doing the 15-minutes-in-your-bathroom-before-carpool work. The “my skin changed and nothing sits right anymore” work. The kind of thing that doesn’t photograph dramatically but changes how a woman feels when she walks out her front door.

POV: you finally found the one step that fixes dullness AND protects your skin.

I hear this from so many of you — “my skin looks tired no matter what I put on it” or “I know I need SPF, but everything makes me look ashy or greasy.” I’ve felt that too. It’s one of the most common frustrations I hear as an over-40 beauty expert, and it’s exactly why I’m so excited about what’s arriving at the studio this week.

It's not more makeup. It's not five extra steps.

I get asked constantly: "Leanne, what's the one thing I should be doing for my skin every single morning?" And the honest answer has never changed — protect it, and keep it hydrated. Everything else is a bonus.
