Hey everyone! This past weekend, I was fortunate to have been given this vacuum this past weekend from a very important person in my life. This machine, to many, may just look like an old Electrolux canister from grandma’s attic, but it was a gift from someone that I considered a mentor and overall taught me so much about the history of the automobile. So, when I came for the museum that I volunteer for for their annual car show, it was more than a pleasant surprise when he told me he had a vacuum for me. My last post for today! I thought I’d share another collection piece. This is a 1976 Eureka ESP Self-Propelled model 5071A! This is regarded as the first self-propelled Eureka vacuum. This model also featured a 2 speed switch on the hood and an eliminated Eureka emblem on the hood that lit up when the machine was on. I found this one way back when I was in college and up until today, it just followed me around with paint splatter and grime all over it. So, after tripping over it for the umpteenth time, I decided that it was ready for it it’s turn at the spa. After several hours of polishing and cleaning, I managed to get her back to a factory shine! Most of these “rust” colored Eureka ESP’s were a model 5071D and had a 2 speed rocker switch in the handle, but this was the earliest version with the switch in the hood, which matches the original ad framed next to mine and makes mine harder to find. This one is definitely not going anywhere and will go on display in my museum. Enjoy!

Here is another one from my private collection that I have for sale! This is a 1967 Hoover Dial-A-Matic in Ceylon yellow! This vacuum was very interestingly optioned in that it was equipped with both a headlight and height adjustment. This DAM is not perfect, but it is not an easy model to find for collectors. Unfortunately, this machine was stored in a damp area before I found it, so it has a spot of oxidation on the front of it. However, I have been able to stop any more oxidation from happening and preserved the original paint. Asside from that, it does have one spot on the cord that has a piece of electrical tape on it, but it is 100% safe to use. I did this in order to save the original cord and plug. While this vacuum will still be a very viable candidate for cleaning, it is a very nice example of a model 1157 that will make any collector happy! I’m asking $70 (plus shipping). Up next for sale, we have this beautiful Hoover Dial-A-Matic Estate! This model hails from the 70s and runs flawlessly. I gave it a full service and detail, so this vintage wonder is ready to go for its new owner! These machines were Hoover’s first clean air machines with built-in filters to provide the user with clean air as it cleaned the floors. This model is also equipped with the built-in self propelled system, so it assists the user move it around in case it was too heavy for them. This vacuum would be perfect for anyone looking for a period prop for a play or maybe just a fun addition to a themed room. Either way, this machine will wake up and clean like it just came out of the box! And this could be yours for the price of $75 (plus shipping for anyone outside of the area)! Well I was able to get some projects done today and thought I’d share some of my work! Up first is a collection piece that I have since fallen in love with! This is a vintage Eureka commercial upright from the early 70s. Thankfully, this machine was found very original. Unfortunately it suffered a casualty when it’s original headlight lens broke, so with a more modern replacement, I was able to paint it to match the original orange as best as I could. Although it does have a replacement headlight lens, it has to be remembered that this was used commercially for a lot of its life, so to find it in mostly original and intact condition is quite rare. This vacuum will be sticking around for a while, so it’s not for sale. Enjoy!

Here’s another marvel of the 80s that is sure to keep on keeping on! Up for sale here is a Regina Housekeeper! And that it is! The Regina Housekeeper debuted in the 70s as a one stop shop for home cleaning. Through the 70s and 80s, it was not common for vacuums to have onboard tools. This example is one of the later models, but does include extension wands as well as a crevice tool to connect to the body mounted hose. This vacuum has been completely gone through and has a brand new belt and bag. I’m looking to get $70 (plus shipping for those out of the area).
