Unfortunately I had a learning experience today, the hens ate the cream colored egg when it hatched, and the other one I brought in and used the incubator light to check for life, I saw no signs of life so I decided to use it as a learning experience for the kids, it was only after it was to late that I realized that the bird was in fact still breathing I did attempt to save it however my efforts weren’t enough at that point and I learned a very hard lesson as a first time egg Hatcher, and that lesson was even if the cracked egg seems lifeless leave it alone for at least 1 full day. I moved the other eggs into the incubator so they can hatch safely without getting eaten and am using this learning experience actively as there is an egg in there that’s begun the hatching process but I will not touch it anymore. At first I felt absolutely horrible, but my dad reminded me that livestock is livestock and to use the situation as a lesson learned rather than guilt trip myself. Please don’t comment if your gonna be mean, I do still feel the affects of my mistake I’m just choosing to make the best of the situation and take it with a grain of salt.
