Junk-n-Treasures is not your ordinary thrift store. You won’t find the typical dimly-lit space with shelf merchandise in disarray; this shop features lots of fluorescent lighting, along with organized shelves and areas. Denise Elston is the proud owner of this store and insists on keeping her shop in good condition. “I’ve always hated going into stinky dirty thrift stores where you can’t see anyth
ing or where the ‘treasures’ are hidden under so much junk you’ll never find them. Elston says you shouldn’t have to wash your hands before you open your car door after leaving her place. So, when I opened Junk ‘N Treasures, I decided to make it the type place I would enjoy shopping myself,” she said. Two of Elston’s favorite parts of running a thrift store are meeting new people and recycling gently used items. “I’ve met many wonderful folks here and i love and appreciate every single one of them” she said. “I never know what people will be looking for, and I love seeing the look on their faces when I tell them that I do have that special find for them.”
Elston spends long hours making sure items in the store are priced and in groups that make it easy to find what you want. Some of the current store items include: a complete fireplace, with mantle, insert and gas logs; a South Pacific style bar, and many rolls of fabric and wrapping paper. When you walk into the store, look straight ahead and to the left. There you will see the lovely mannequin with long black hair and dressed in a wedding dress. Though she is not for sale, the organ next to her is. The most popular items with customers are vintage clothing, furniture, kitchen wares and appliances. Elston is always on the lookout for these items, so if you have some, please don’t hesitate to call her at 864-590-3809. One of the main services offered by Elston’s store is helping people downsize. Whether you’re part of a couple, whose children have grown and left home and you want to move to a smaller home or a senior citizen ready to move in with your children or to a retirement home, Elston will come to your home and take a look at your belongings. This way, you won’t have to deal with the hassles of having a yard sale either before or after you move. She will help you make decisions on what to keep, what to throw out and what to sell to her. She’ll offer you a reasonable price for the things you want to get rid of, and then she’ll set a date to come pick them up. Elston calls this service her ‘moving management’ program.
