What a year! …..
Every year I make a list, set goals for various projects. Always very optimistic- so if I get 50% completed- I feel I’m doing pretty good. This year we are about 75% 😊 Now keep in mind … these are things beyond normal farm operations. This year a couple major maintenance repairs to equipment, road work, two new buildings, field cleanup (removing over hanging branches etc) and field plowing, continued work on drainage systems … and just making things look nice.
Mother Nature was busy too … we got lots of moisture! We probably won’t catch up on mowing … but the trees love the type of moisture we got and are doing great!
Field Cleanup this year has taken much longer (removing high stumps, branches etc. Please remember- cut the trees no higher than 2” above ground. If the tree has bare or damaged lower branches - tell us and we will cut them / the trunk off … or
If you want - you can but leave the refuse at the edge of the field … that helps us keep the prices down. And if you see someone cutting high or leaving cutting … please remind them … as they will be making your tree next year more expensive. Also - I’ve had this discussion with many people … some want to leave some branches on the stump so that a new tree will grow. NO NO NO! Yes, a tree will grow back but it will not make a good Christmas tree, sometimes it creates an incubator for various destructive insects - so more chemical spraying is required (hired tree prices).
When the trees are gone from the field, it’s plowed, stumps removed, and new trees planted.
