Never a dull moment…
Recently, the farm welcomed a stray cat. Now, I don’t hate cats - I’m just more of a dog person. However, I felt the farm could use a good “barn cat” to keep the rodents down - and she certainly does - Boy! Does she do that well ! I can barely keep up with her body count - and of course she has to bring each one to me to show me…. And in this hot weather… 😷
She’s a very friendly cat. A few weeks ago she hung out with a neighborhood skunk 🦨 and acquired her new name “Smelly Cat” …
Of course she had to have a bath … I used the hydrogen peroxide/ baking soda solution. I was really impressed with how well it worked despite the fact that she did not get the full 5 minute scrub or rinse … but I do like her lighter coloring…
Apparently, she is the talk of the forest around her… one day a deer got my attention when it was snorting and stomping the ground - Smelly Cat was just sitting there … I figured she had gotten too close to a fawn. I had to break them up - the deer reluctantly moved off. I later investigated but found no evidence that a fawn had been around. But then a few days later one morning … I’m watching a deer come close to the barn area, was eating some wild strawberries and then it looked like she was looking for something… she snorted some and tapped the ground with just one leg (not aggressively like the last time) Smelly Cat saw me and was coming towards me and the deer more or less intercepted her - she displayed very friendly mannerisms - at one point she bent down to sniff Smelly Cat but when their noses touched Smelly Cat jumped and the deer backed off but was still curious and friendly towards her.
