This week's herbal highlight is the beautiful and oh-so-sacred Achillea millefolium, better known as Yarrow!
Yarrow is a very common wildflower in the Black Hills, and also common as an ornamental species in urban settings. There is probably some growing within 100 yards of you right now, whether it is wild or in the neighbor's planter. β€
This plant goes back to over 50,000 years of human medicinal use, and its common and modern botanical names originate from its association with the stories of the legendary Greek hero, Achilles.
Generally, Yarrow is best known to stop bleeding and heal tissues, both internally and externally. This is one of those herbs you can very easily watch in action as you apply it to cuts or scrapes. At home we always keep Yarrow on hand, using it as a primary first aid ally in almost all situations that involve blood.
Combined with Calendula flowers, we offer a wondeful wound care serum safe for the whole family! Come by and check it out at the clinic in Spearfish. π€
