Today marks 25 years since September 11, 2001.

We remember the 2,977 lives lost that day. We honor the first responders who ran toward danger, the families whose lives were forever changed, and all those who answered the call to serve in the years that followed.

Twenty-five years have passed, but we have not forgotten.

FLOORING 101: Water-Resistant vs. Waterproof

These two floors may look like they’re competing for the same job.

One is a water-resistant laminate with 30-hour surface moisture protection. The other is a waterproof luxury vinyl.

So… what’s the difference — and when does it actually matter?

Water-resistant flooring is designed to handle everyday spills and surface moisture for a specified amount of time. That gives you time to wipe up the tipped-over water glass, wet footprints, or the puddle your dog leaves around the water bowl every single day.

Waterproof luxury vinyl won’t absorb water into the flooring itself, making it a great option for areas where moisture exposure is more likely.

But here’s the important part: “waterproof flooring” doesn’t mean a waterproof room. Water can still get around the edges, underneath the floor, or into walls and subfloors. A dishwasher leak or flooded basement is a very different situation from a spilled glass of water—or a messy pup!

So which one is better?

Neither — it depends on the room, your household, and what you need your floor to handle. That’s why we ask questions before we start pulling samples.

Introducing Flooring 101!

There’s more to choosing flooring than choosing a color.

What works beautifully in one home—or even one room—may not be the best choice for another.

Wear layers. Waterproof vs. water-resistant. Carpet pad. Pattern match. Floor prep. And why does the same flooring sometimes look completely different once you get it home?

There’s a lot to consider when choosing a floor, and unless you work with flooring every day, why would you know all of it?

That’s where Flooring 101 comes in.

Over the coming weeks, we’re going to share a little more about flooring—the differences between products, things to consider before you buy, answers to questions we hear in the showroom, design inspiration, and some of the little details that can make a big difference in the finished project.

No flooring degree required. We’ll keep it practical, useful, and easy to understand.

Whether new floors are somewhere in your future or you just enjoy a little home inspiration, follow along!
