As the newest owners of the oldest general Store in Indiana, we are proud to keep Cataract General Store a working store. We are a true general store, & items we carry include groceries, dry goods, seasonal, camping supplies, snacks, cold drinks, books, toys, a ladies department, antiques & collectibles, & a variety of unusual gifts & souveniers.For those who have made the trip out for many years,

we've kept the traditional pickle barrel, moon pies, (we've even added moon pie ice cream sandwiches-yum!) & 8 oz glass bottle cokes. We sell ice, beer, bait, & we have the best deal on firewood in Owen County. We're convenient to many area campgrounds, & just a stones throw from the Niagara of Indiana, Cataract Falls. McCormick's Creek & Lieber Parks are just a short drive away. We're 10 minutes off of I-70 (exit 41) & 15 from SR 67. Come see us in Sweet Owen County, you'll find the Cataract General Store in the same spot it's been in since 1860!

The sky is about to put on a cosmic show — the Draconid Meteor Shower reaches its peak on October 8–9, 2025!

Unlike most meteor showers that dazzle after midnight, the Draconids come alive just after sunset, painting the twilight sky with glowing trails of stardust. Each golden streak is a tiny fragment from Comet 21P/Giacobini–Zinner, burning up in Earth’s atmosphere.

✨ Best viewed from dark, rural areas under clear skies — face northwest, lean back, and let the magic unfold.
Even if you spot just a few meteors, each one carries a piece of a comet’s ancient journey across the Solar System.

October whispers soft and clear,
A gentle sigh, the end draws near,
