So grateful to everyone who joined us last night in support of the Nepali communities affected by last week’s devastating floods. Special thanks to Dr. Brian Henning of Gonzaga University Climate Institute , Denise Attwood of Conscious Connections Foundation and Ganesh Himal Trading , and Satish Shrestha Satish Shrestha for sharing their perspectives and helping us focus on recovery beyond the first few weeks.
If you weren’t able to join us, there are still ways to contribute! You can donate to Conscious Connections Foundation via their website or in the store. Kizuri is also donating 10% of all sales to CCF through the weekend. And you can contribute to Denise’s offering in the lobby for the next day before she takes it to the river 🌸
We’re all committed to the long term recovery of these communities and more broadly, to building resilience in the face of the climate crisis, so stay tuned for more ways to help in the future.

Join us on Thursday night at the Community Building to learn about the current situation in Nepal and how you can be a part of the road to recovery.

We have been heartbroken to witness the devastation in Nepal over the last week, especially after such a heavy month in Spokane recovering from the wildfires here. We are lucky to work closely with Conscious Connections Foundation (Conscious Connections Foundation ) a grassroots nonprofit based here in Spokane that has strong partnerships on the ground in Nepal. The Nepali led team there, Conscious Connections Nepal (CCN),  is helping to assess who is working in the impacted areas, who can distribute goods effectively and efficiently and what needs are not being met. Although CCF’s main mission is to provide access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities throughout Nepal, they have experience in direct aid in disasters and in long term recovery.
 
CCF/CCN has already been called to action, sending requested supplies to impacted areas. And they are committed to supporting these communities in the long run— through the years they have provided everything from support in the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake, supplies during covid, to long term scholarships and healthcare funding. While the Egypt National Team is in town showing off their athletic skills, we thought it was the perfect time to showcase some of their country’s amazing crafts! Come in to Kizuri to check out the blown glass, ceramics, metalwork, textiles, jewelry, and more. All made in Egypt by talented artisans carrying on the history of their craft and sustaining the livelihoods of communities from Luxor to Aswan to Cairo and beyond.

✨ Did you know? These chimes are made from a mollusk sometimes called the “jingle oyster” due to the lovely jingling sound they produce. They are also a zero waste product! The community harvests the mollusks and eats the meat, artisans turn the layers of the inner shell into beautiful crafts like these chimes, and farmers grind down the outer shell to use as a nitrogen-fixing fertilizer!
