Game of the Week: Magic the Gathering

Magic the Gathering, or just “Magic” for short, is an institution in gaming. This powerhouse has been going strong for decades, and shows no signs of slowing. If you haven’t played before let me give you a few reasons why you should give it a shot:

1. All your friends play. Being such a popular game, you are almost guaranteed to know someone who plays. At Uncle’s we have tournaments every week, sometimes more.

2. Easy to get into. We have free samples to get you started, and we sell intro packs that let you jump right in and play before you master the art of deck building.

3. Fun. Did I mention that it’s a fun game? There’s a reason it’s still around after 20 years.

Now is a great time to start playing. A new set (Shadows over Innistrad) just released so there’s a lot of festivity in the community for the next few weeks. If you are ready for the epic experience that is Magic the Gathering, hit up your favorite Uncle's Games and check out their weekly tournament!

Game of the Week: Force of Will

Force of Will is an up-and-coming card game that has only been around for two years and is gaining speed in the trading card game (TCG) community. Force of Will brings fantasy characters such as Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, Cthulhu, and more! The game is new, and the battle has only just begun.

In Force of Will players wage a war of gods. Each player gets a ruler. These rulers along with the army of resonators that they control carry different attributes including light, fire, wind, water, darkness, void, and moon. In order to call the resonators to battle, the amount of will (in the form of magic stones) needed to put them into play is pulled from the deck by "tapping" the ruler. This is a play style similar to Magic the Gathering. The difference between Force of Will and Magic the Gathering is that the stones are in a separate deck, whereas in Magic the mana is shuffled into the main deck. This aspect of Force of Will eliminates the possibility of getting "mana-screwed".

Each player starts the game with 4000 life points that are guarded by their ruler and resonators. The object of the game is to overcome the opponent's army and attack the player directly until their life point value is 0. Resonators and rulers are not the only things that can defend players. Some characters have extra abilities that can aid players along with the use of spell cards.
Force of Will is a TCG that also follows a story line (available online on their main site). Each set of cards released creates a complex relationship between the main rulers and enhances game play. If you like an immersive story, easy game play, and fun characters, Force of Will is a great TCG for you.

Game of the Week: Roll For It!

Once in awhile you find a game that is exciting, fun to play, and easy to learn. Roll For It! is one of those games. Start by rolling six dice. If any of your rolled numbers match the numbers on the cards, place the die next to it (check out the attached pictures). On the next turn, only roll your remaining dice. If you can match all your dice to the card it scores. If not, you must wait until next turn and roll again until you get a match. You can only get your dice back once the card scores, so be careful how you place them!

Will you be greedy and go for the big numbers that are difficult to complete, or will you go the easy route and score small numbers turn after turn? Going small is the smart play, but those big cards are so juicy! Whatever you decide, someone will win quickly, and you can play again. Roll For It! is great for kids, great for adults, fun for all, and exciting enough to keep even the your most curmudgeonly friends entertained. Stop by and play our demo. You won’t be disappointed.

If you'd like to win a free copy, visit your favorite Uncle's Games store page and share their "Roll For It!" Game of the Week post for a chance to win!

Miller’s Hollow. A quaint, peaceful village… or at least it was, until the werewolves arrived. In Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow, payers take on the role of different townsfolk—the witch, the judge, the hunter—and the werewolves. During the night, the werewolves choose a villager to kill. During the day, the villages deliberate and, using the clues special characters contribute, vote on a suspected werewolf to exile. That player reveals their role and is cast out of the game.

Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow is a social game requiring now special equipment to play, and can accommodate almost any large group of players. Best of all, the environment created by the game is full of delicious tension, suspension, and backstabbing—perfect for celebrating the Ides of March!

Dead of Winter brings players together in a tiny, fragile colony of survivors in a world overtaken by zombies. Players work together toward one common victory condition--but to achieve their own victory, they must also complete their own secret objective. Though often harmless or neutral, that objective can sometimes lead to the colony’s downfall. Look out for yourself and look out for the colony—but most of all, look out for the traitor among you.

Game of the Week: Red Dragon Inn

What do fantasy adventurers do after a long day of slaying dragons? They relax at the Inn of course, the Red Dragon Inn. In this game you try keep your character from passing out or running out of gold.

If either of these things happen you’re out of the game. Go ahead and buy drinks for the party, if they black out because of your kindness, you get to keep some of their gold. Don’t have enough gold? Try gambling. Your party is an honest bunch and they wouldn’t dream of cheating you. It may just get you back in the game. Challenge the dwarf to a drinking challenge. Try to cheat the Rogue. Don’t forget to tip the w***h. In the end, you are all going to be passed out on the floor, so have fun while you can.
