This!!!

One of the hardest things I’ve had to learn is this:

I don’t have to believe everything I think.

Neither do you.

That sounds simple until your own mind turns against you.

You screwed everything up.

They’re going to leave you.

You’ll never recover from this.

God is disappointed in you.

You’re not enough.

It’s too late.

And if a thought stays in your head long enough, eventually it can stop sounding like a thought…

and start sounding like truth.

But it isn’t always truth.

Fear has a voice.

Shame has a voice.

Rejection has a voice.

And old wounds have a way of talking about yesterday like it’s still happening today.

Sometimes we build an entire life around a sentence that was never true to begin with.

Scripture talks about the renewing of our minds in Romans 12 and taking thoughts captive in 2 Corinthians 10.

Maybe that’s because every thought doesn’t deserve unrestricted access to our hearts.

I’ve believed things about myself simply because I felt them deeply.

But feeling something deeply doesn’t make it true.

Someone doesn’t text back, and our mind writes the story.

Someone acts differently, and we fill in the blanks.

Something falls apart, and immediately that old voice says:

“See? I told you. This always happens to you.”

Sometimes we’re bleeding from something that hasn’t even happened.

So I’m learning to stop and ask:

Is this true?

Or am I afraid?

Is this conviction?

Or is this shame?

Is God really saying this about me…

or is this the voice of somebody who wounded me years ago that I’ve carried around ever since?

Some thoughts need to be challenged.

Some need to be replaced.

And some need to be told:

You don’t live here anymore.

Maybe you’re not hopeless.

Maybe you’re hurting.

Maybe you’re not unwanted.

Maybe somebody simply didn’t know how to love you.

Maybe you’re not a failure.

Maybe you failed at something. There’s a difference.

Maybe God isn’t finished with you.

And maybe the voice you’ve been calling truth…

is actually just an old wound with a microphone.

So be gentle with yourself today.

But don’t believe every damn thing your mind tells you.

Bring the thought into the light.

Challenge it.

Hold it against truth.

Because sometimes one of the most important acts of faith isn’t changing your circumstances.

It’s refusing to let a lie become your identity.

So let me ask you:

What’s something your mind has told you about yourself for years that you’re beginning to realize may not actually be true?
