Springfield Police Department Promotes Two Deputy Chiefs, Captain, Lieutenant & Sergeant
Springfield, Mass. --- On Thursday September 10th, on behalf of the Springfield Police Department, Springfield Police Superintendent Lawrence E. Akers along with Mayor Domenic J. Sarno held a promotional pinning ceremony for the Departmentās two newest Deputy Chiefs, Captain, Lieutenant and Sergeant inside the Springfield Elks Lodge.
Springfield Police Superintendent Akers promoted Deputy Chief Jeffrey Martucci and Deputy Chief Brian Beliveau on August 16th, while promoting Captain Joseph Piemonte, Lieutenant Christopher Roberts and Sergeant Matthew Lee on August 30th.
Superintendent Akers stated, āI would like to congratulate these five men for reaching another pinnacle in their fine and respected careers. We have bolstered our Command Staff with the addition of Deputy Chief Martucci and Deputy Chief Beliveau. Their background in investigations and special operations, respectfully will provide our officers and supervisors with a wealth of knowledge they have attained throughout their careers. Captain Piemonte will continue to oversee and guide our young officers as watch commander of his shift, while Lieutenant Roberts and Sergeant Lee will continue to demonstrate their value as street supervisors for our department. They each have an enormous amount of experience to share from their various assignments during their tenure. I want to congratulate and thank all of you for your commitment to our department and your families for the support they provide you.ā

Deputy Chief Jeffrey Martucci
Deputy Chief Jeffrey Martucci joined the Springfield Police Department in 1998, after serving the city as a Police Cadet.
Promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2009, Lieutenant in 2017 and Captain in 2021, Deputy Martucci has spent much of his career in the Detective Bureau and Internal Investigations Unit, and most recently as the Aide to Superintendent Akers.
He has received various departmental Commendations and a life-saving award throughout his career and has been a long-serving member of the Springfield Police Dive Team. Deputy Chief Martucci currently oversees the Investigations Division.

Deputy Chief Brian Beliveau
A Putnam Vocational Technical High School graduate, Deputy Chief Brian Beliveau has served the city of Springfield for more than 33 years, first as a Police Cadet before becoming a police officer in 1997.
He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2014, Lieutenant in 2018 and Captain in 2022 and holds a Masterās Degree from American International College.
Beliveau has served in the Uniform Division, Youth Aide and Student Support Bureaus, as well as a member of the Emergency Services Unit (ESU). He has been a supervisor in the Fi****ms Investigation Unit, Metro Unit, Police Academy and Professional Standards Unit.
He has received numerous departmental Commendations including a Life-Saving Proclamation from the City Council. Deputy Chief Beliveau currently oversees the Special Operation Division.

Captain Joseph Piemonte
A Central High School graduate, Captain Joseph Piemonte became a Springfield Police Officer in 1993. The Forest Park native was promoted to the rank of Sergeant 2017 and Lieutenant in 2022.
Captain Piemonte received a Mastersā degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2017 after becoming a Springfield Police Officer in 1993.
Captain Piemonte has received several awards and commendations throughout his career, including helping rescue an 11-year-old boy who fell through the ice on a pond in Sixteen Acres.
Inspired by his father, Springfield Fire Captain Joseph Piemonte, he credits his wife for all her support and help during his career. Piemonte is currently the Captain of the Squad āAā Uniform Division.

Lieutenant Christopher Roberts
Born and raised in Springfield, Lieutenant Christopher Roberts has served the city of Springfield for 16 years, first as a dispatcher prior to becoming a police officer in 2014.
The Cathedral High School graduate holds a Bachelorās degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State University.
Lieutenant Roberts was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2023 and has worked in the Uniform Division, Student Support Unit and most recently in the Professional Standards Unit.
He has earned a Springfield Police Commendation and a Life-Saving Award from AMR during his tenure as a police officer. Roberts also received his departmental Physical Fitness Award.
He is currently assigned as a Supervisor in the Squad āAā Uniform Division.
Lieutenant Roberts would like to acknowledge his wife, son and daughter for all of their love and support.

Sergeant Matthew Lee
Sergeant Matthew Lee joined the Springfield Police Department in 1996 and has served the city of Springfield for nearly 30 years.
The East Forest Park native and Cathedral High School graduate furthered his education and earned an Associateās Degree in Criminal Justice from Springfield Technical Community College and later a Bachelorās Degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State University.
As a patrolman, then Officer Lee has been assigned to the Uniform Division, Youth Aid Bureau, Major Crimes Unit, Gaming Enforcement Unit and Ordinance Unit, he is currently assigned to the Squad āCā Uniform Division as a Supervisor.
Throughout his career, Sergeant Lee has received two departmental Commendations, a Life-Saving Award, an appreciation award from the city of Springfield Safe Neighborhood Initiative and a citation from the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
Leeās work and testimony during the Al Bruno murder trial, helped lead to convictions and life sentences for the three men on trial in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Lee is forever grateful for his mother and late father (Robert), who spent more than 40 years as a teacher in Springfield Public Schools, for their love and support, along with his brother, his sister and her family.
Most important to Sergeant Lee are his three sons; who give him joy and motivate him every day to work hard and make the right decisions so they can be as proud of him, as he is of them.
