Congratulations to Rick Roever, our Angler 2026 Saltwater winner, for this shot of his giant trevally at Farquhar Atoll in the Seychelles.

We get a ton of grip-and-grins and admittedly, that's not what we design the contest around. So it takes a special one to get our attention, let alone win a category. This one did.

This isn’t your traditional photography-contest winner, and that’s part of why we love it. For a saltwater fly fisherman, making the trip to Farquhar Atoll is like making it to the Super Bowl. Landing a giant trevally like this is catching the game-winning Hail Mary. Be honest, we all dream about the chance to be neck deep with a grin like this doing exactly what he's doing.

The split-level perspective puts us right in the water, with sunlight across the fish’s flanks and palms lining the shore. You look at this photograph and understand exactly why someone would travel halfway around the world with a fly rod.

Fly fishing and good country music have always belonged in the same places. Riverbanks. Campfires. Back roads. Long drives home from the river.

That’s why Kam Bu**er feels right for the First Annual Feather Craft Fly Fishing Festival on November 7th.

Kam is a Midwest-born, Nashville-based recording artist and singer-songwriter building a sound she calls “backroad soul”: country, folk, blues and American roots music stripped down to the things that matter most. Good writing. Good stories. No unnecessary polish. Her work has earned recognition in national songwriting competitions, including a finalist spot at the Tucson Folk Festival.

And this isn’t somebody we randomly pulled off a Nashville stage. Fly fishing is part of her story.

Kam grew up listening to old music and cowboy songs with her grandfather, inherited his guitar, mandolin and banjo, and spent time fly fishing the rivers of rural Missouri with her dad.

She’s now making records in Nashville, including work recorded at BMG Studios, while playing rooms like The Basement and other Nashville songwriter stages. Her songs have that same quality we like in fishing: traditional roots, a little grit, and enough individuality to make them her own.

East of 8th Music Blog described her music as “raw lyricism with blues-country grit”, praising the authenticity behind her performances. If you like Tyler Childers, Charley Crockett, or Colter Wall, you'll love Kam's music.

We couldn’t think of a better musical guest for year one.
