Monday Match-Up: The new fall releases from With Thy Needle and Thread have landed and we've matched some Colour and Cotton thread conversions, and even a few kits in store. Swing by the shop or visit us online, we have plenty of charts in stock.

If you're not local you can download free conversion guides for these designs on our website, we'll link in the comments below. We are out of some of the individual thread colors but if you have an ample C&C stash you may very well have the colors you need already!

Stitchy Sunday: Today we're sharing a project-in-progress by team member Tina, she's working on the All Hallows Eve Stocking by Teresa Kogut using Cactus Wren by Fox and Rabbit fabric and her own Colour and Cotton thread conversion (which we've posted for free on our website - search for Tina's version.)

We'd love to see what's keeping your needle moving today - share what you're working on or just recently finished. Photos in the comments are very welcome!

Saturday at the Shop: Our displays are getting some seasonal makeovers and we're starting to pull out all of spooky stitches and autumn charts. This time of year is when it always feels like stitchers really feel freshly inspired. One of the best stitching seasons of the year!

Fabric Friday: While the first four colors from our newly redesigned cross stitch fabric collection are debuting at Needlework Marketplace this weekend (contact your favorite local or online cross stitch shop to order - buyers have these colors exclusively for 60 days!) - we'd like to show you a sneak peak of four more finalized colors coming down the pipeline this fall.

1690 Cinder
1590 Bogwood
1380 Copper
1510 Quartz

These colors will be available in linen, aida and 28 ct evenweave.

And while we have you - we have a question of burning curiosity. You know here at Colour and Cotton we love all fabric types and counts. Sometimes customers walk in to our store looking for fabric and are almost apologetic for "only being able to stitch on aida." There are SO many beautiful aida and evenweave options, and aida isn't something you should feel the need to graduate from. Never should you feel that way in our store and in fact, Aida 14 ct is our most popular count by sales volume, so you're in good company if aida is your sweet spot.

But there is one fabric count that has declined so much in sales over the years and we truly don't understand why...and that would be Cashel 28 ct linen. It doesn't look like it's just our store, either, shops are ordering a lot less of this count from us than any other as well. As someone who personally really enjoys stitching on 28 ct linen, I'm really curious to hear why this is - whether you do or don't like it!

Last but not least, our final Needlework Marketplace release is 1530 Travertine.

If you loved our color Dove, Travertine is exceptionally close! We had a lot of dye lot struggles with our original Dove formulation, but we daresay Dove might be even better. It's the perfect warm taupe.

Another new permanent color releasing at Needlework Marketplace is 1340 Adobe. It's a wonderful terracotta-caramel shade., dark enough for white and light floss to show well.

Adobe is part of the first group of neutrals from our completely rebuilt fabric collection, which will continue growing throughout the year into a palette of approximately 100 harmonizing colors.

Next up in our Needlework Marketplace preview: 1610 Flint.

Flint is one of the first four neutrals joining our rebuilt permanent fabric collection—a palette we’re developing to eventually include approximately 100 harmonizing colors. Flint is a fairly balanced charcoal grey with slight blue and earthy undertones.

Shops participating in Needlework Marketplace will be able to order Flint along with the other three new colors.

We’re so excited to be participating in Needlework Marketplace this year—our very first tradeshow! Needlework Marketplace is a virtual wholesale show for shops in the needlework industry, and it felt like the perfect place to introduce something we’ve been working on for quite a while.

If you’ve been following our fabric updates, you may know that we’re in the process of rebuilding our permanent fabric collection from the ground up: a carefully developed palette of approximately 100 beautiful, harmonizing colors designed to work together.

First up is 1310 Sienna 🤎

One of the things we’re especially excited about with this new collection is the amount of information we’ll be sharing about every color. The second photo shows a peek of what our website will look like, including our new White Floss Test, which tells you at a glance whether we think white stitches will show clearly on a particular fabric color.

We’ll be building and releasing the collection gradually through the end of the year, but we thought Needlework Marketplace was the perfect opportunity to debut the first four neutrals from the new permanent palette.

Shops participating in Marketplace will be able to order all four new colors—so if you’d like to see them at your favorite local or online needlework shop, be sure to let them know!

A bit more behind our color methodology in creating our new permanent fabric collection. To help keep ourselves focused (so that we, ahem, don't want to keep every single color...) we've divided our catalog into four color quadrants. Today we sampled in the "Garden" quadrant and explored some burnt orange, berry, coral and plum hues to start. Typically we explore the colors first (all samples are the same strength and value, a relatively medium sample) - only then do we decide if we want to expand upon the colors, or dye some lighter and/or darker versions. It's all very mathematical and technical, to be honest, once we pick out the initial dye set! But the results are always so satisfying.
