Henry Marx, a lifelong mariner. Landfall is still owned and managed by Capt. Marx and still provides top quality marine safety and navigation gear to recreation, commercial and military mariners worldwide. Landfall provides a complete Inventory of Inshore/Offshore Safety Equipment, Worldwide Nautical Charts and Instruments, as well as an extensive Marine Clothing and Accessories Department. And lastly there is the Landfall Marine Training Center which provides numerous education and training programs including Diesel Engine Maintenance, U. Coast Guard Launch Operators Licensing Course, Weather and Marine Electronics Seminars. Two hundred years on, the Erie Canal and still hauling freight.

Championed by DeWitt Clinton, U.S. Senator, Mayor of New York City, and Governor of New York, the canal opened on October 26, 1825, and stretching 363 miles from the Hudson River west to Lake Erie.

Today Clinton's ditch is still moving freight efficiently and keeps loads off our roads and bridges.

FINAL PREPARATIONS - ANNAPOLIS, HERE WE COME!

The final preparations are underway for the 2026 Annapolis Boat Shows Sail Boat Show, opening this Thursday, October 15, and running through Sunday, October 18.

Four days of sailboats, sailing gear, new products, seminars and the chance to catch up with sailors from around the world. And more importantly find what you and your boat needs for this or next season.

The Landfall crew is getting ready with a selection of safety equipment, PFDs, navigation gear and Boat Show Specials.

One more day to listen, learn, and talk cruising and absorb the collective experience with our fellow cruisers

It’s the final day of the Seven Seas Cruising Association SSCA 2026 Chesapeake Bay GAM at the Maryland Yacht Club.

After Friday’s discussions and Saturday’s hands-on safety demonstrations, today turns back to presentations, conversations, and the exchange of cruising knowledge and experience.

For Landfall, that exchange works both ways. We’ve had the opportunity to share what we know about marine safety and preparedness, but just as importantly, to listen to cruisers talk about what works, what they carry aboard, what they’ve learned, and what they might do differently next time.

That sharing of real-world experience, along with the fellowship that comes with it, is at the heart of a GAM and one of the reasons Landfall values being part of the SSCA community.

Our thanks to the Seven Seas Cruising Association SSCA, Maryland Yacht Club, presenters, volunteers, and everyone who has shared their knowledge and experiences with us this weekend.

Roll up your sleeves, it’s hands-on GAM time.

Today at the Maryland Yacht Club, Capt. Mark Bologna and the Landfall team take marine safety out of the classroom with live life raft and distress flare demonstrations.

Seeing a raft deployed or a flare demonstrated is very different from simply reading the instructions. You want to touch, haul, and be familiar with your equipment before disaster strikes at 3-something a.m. when its cold, wet, and the breeze is up.

It’s all part of Landfall’s approach to marine safety: the right equipment, preparation, and the knowledge to use it.

Come join us for another full day of cruising knowledge, conversation, and fellowship of the Seven Seas Cruising Association SSCA at the 2026 Chesapeake Bay GAM.

As we wrap up Friday’s sessions at the Chesapeake Bay GAM, we hope everyone leaves with one important thought: locating and getting someone back aboard is not an easy task.

Stay on the boat. Wear your life jacket. Clip on when conditions get rough or when you’re alone on deck.

The best rescue is the one you never have to make.

Landfall has come ashore at the Maryland Yacht Club for the 2026 Seven Seas Cruising Association SSCA Chesapeake Bay GAM.

We’re proud to be part of the longstanding traditions of both the Maryland Yacht Club and the Seven Seas Cruising Association SSCA, brought together this weekend by a shared commitment to seamanship, cruising knowledge, safety, and fellowship on and off the water.

There is plenty of history behind this gathering. The Maryland Yacht Club traces its beginnings to 1908, while the Seven Seas Cruising Association was founded in 1952 by a small group of liveaboard cruisers who believed in sharing their experiences and knowledge with fellow sailors.

Today, Landfall’s Mark Bologna and Sean Fleischman are participating in the Safety for Cruising Couples program, joining the discussion on preparing yourself and your boat and dealing with emergencies.

We have a full three days ahead of us and look forward to an engaging dialogue with cruisers, fellow presenters, and SSCA leadership. Landfall will continue the safety conversation throughout the GAM, including hands-on marine safety demonstrations with life rafts and flares.

Landfall is on the road, spreading the marine safety message.

Starting tomorrow through Sunday, October 2–4, we’ll be at the Seven Seas Cruising Association SSCA 026 Chesapeake Bay GAM at the Maryland Yacht Club in Pasadena, Maryland.

Come join fellow cruisers for presentations, open discussions and plenty of opportunities to share real-world cruising knowledge and experience. And be sure to join Landfall for safety discussion and live demonstrations, including life rafts and flares.

Whether you’re preparing to head offshore, cruise south for the winter or spend your time exploring closer to home, there’s plenty to learn and plenty of experienced cruisers to learn from.

GALE WARNING FLAGS ARE FLYING AT LANDFALL
With a nor’easter approaching and a Gale Warning posted, we’ve hoisted the traditional Gale Warning signals at Landfall: two red pennants. We’ve also reset our Maximum Weather Instruments anemometer to zero, well it jumped to 10mph immediately.

While we never want the worst to happen, being prepared and monitoring changing conditions is part of good seamanship.
U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) issues a Gale Warning when sustained winds or frequent gusts of 34 to 47 knots (39 to 54 mph) are predicted or occurring. A Gale Watch means those conditions are possible, but the timing, location or occurrence remains uncertain. National Weather Service

We’ll be watching the flags, the weather and our anemometer as the storm moves through.
