600 followers! š„° Seems like a good time to introduce myself.
Hi! Iām Sarah, the person behind Kaleidoscope PA. Iām an educational psychologist, artist, teacher, and a believer in the connection between art and well-being.
In fact, that connection is the foundation of Kaleidoscope PA. The growing field of neuroaesthetics is providing research support for something artists and makers have intuitively known for a very long time: making and experiencing art can be good for our mental and physical health. Iām fascinated by that intersection of research, art, and wellness.
I also believe we are all artists and creators. Somewhere along the way, we created a lot of rules about who gets to call themselves an artist, what counts as art, and whether something is āgoodā enough to have value. I want Kaleidoscope to push back against that. Creativity belongs to all of us.
My goal is to create opportunities for people to make things, play, experiment, connect with others, and experience the health and wellness benefits of creativity.
I also care deeply about sustainability and making a difference in my community, which has led me toward creative reuseā¦keeping good materials out of the landfill, making art supplies more accessible, and seeing possibility in things other people no longer need.
And somewhere in all of that, Iāve developed a slight obsession with estate sales, vintage art supplies, old paper, and delightfully unusual objects. š That part wasnāt exactly in the original plan.
Now I have my first little space in Lemont where I get to bring it all together: art, health, community, sustainability, and curiosity.
And I think itās kind of fabulous that follower #600 was the wonderful Arcadian Vintage (Arcadian Consignment Co.) which has been fueling some of those recent estate-sale adventures. šā¤ļø
Thanks for being here. Iām excited about whatās next. Stay tuned!!!
