Happy Teacher Appreciation Week! We are big fans of the work teachers throughout Centre County put in to make literacy a priority in children’s lives, and have enjoyed helping them get kids excited to read! We are always up to helping celebrate the special teachers in your lives with book, stationery, and gift recommendations!!!

Independent Bookstore Day is this Saturday!!! We are excited to end April with a celebration of not only bookstores, books, and cool tools for storytelling, but with the community that has made The Squirrel and Acorn the bookshop it is!! We can’t wait to celebrate with you!!

Today and tomorrow we will be donating 15% of our sales to The Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center (PIRC). This is an organization that provides information and legal representation to immigrants who often are unable to afford these services throughout PA.

The Squirrel and Acorn Bookshop was founded on the principle of bringing to light the stories, and histories of the marginalized and forgotten. We have strived to provide a community space where stories can be found that represents all of humanity, and hoped to inspire those who never thought they had a voice, or story to tell, to see that they do, and should tell it. A bookshop is at its foundation more than a business, it, at its’ best, is the heart of its’ community. We are a sanctuary for those seeking answers, knowledge, and space to be themselves. We are a place of ideas, of speech, of celebration of humanity, its diversity, and complexity. We stand against any policy, movement, or organization that attempts to demonize and devalue anyone’s humanity, and stand with those who oppose the unconstitutional use of force by ICE and federal law enforcement.

We will be closed Sunday Jan. 25th due to the impending snowstorm. Hope everyone stays warm and finds a good book to read, goes on some epic sled rides, and build an awesome snowman or two! Stay safe, and enjoy!

“Twas the night before Christmas, when all thro’ the Bookshop, Not a creature was stirring, not even a bookmark. The books were all nestled on their shelves with great care, having been looked at, flipped through, and browsed here and there. Now they may rest…with hopes of being discovered in the New Year! “

Thank you all who have wandered into the Bookshop this year, we are a few months past being three years old. This year was amazing, and also challenging in so many ways than other years. But, we are forever grateful for trusting us with helping you find your next great book, or pen, pencil, or notebook to create your own stories. May we all enjoy a little Winter nap!

Apologies for the short notice, but due to unforeseen circumstances we will be closed today. Thanks to everyone who came out this weekend, seeing everyone excited for the holidays, and finding a great book for that special someone or for yourself to enjoy these cooler days is always fun to be a part of! This community is amazing and we are so grateful that a tiny bookshop as ours has been welcomed and enjoyed as much as it has, you really are the best!
