Sometimes a SPARK is as simple as seeing a problem and saying, “I can help with that.”

When Steve Miska of Signature Engraving learned that the Downtown State College Improvement District was having trouble with our giant ribbon-cutting scissors, yes, the very scissors we use to celebrate downtown businesses, he offered to take a look.

And he didn’t just take a look. He made them better.

Steve significantly improved the functionality of the scissors and put them back into service, ensuring that we can continue using them to celebrate the grand openings, anniversaries, expansions and milestones that make our downtown business community special.

You may know Signature Engraving for the awards, plaques, recognition pieces and milestone markers they create for others. But this time, Steve put that expertise to work for the benefit of all downtown businesses and organizations.

That’s what makes this a SPARK. It’s about:
• being a good business neighbor.
• sharing your expertise.
• investing in the success of the community and businesses around you.
• helping us celebrate the people who make downtown thrive.

Steve reminded us that the best kind of business community is one where people look out for one another and lend a helping hand when they can.

So, Steve, thank you for fixing our scissors, but more importantly, thank you for helping us continue the celebrations.

First Friday is back, and downtown is ready for a night of art, music, shopping, food and plenty of reasons to stick around a little longer. ✨

Join us from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, September 4, for another evening of discovering what makes such a vibrant place to be.

Located at 222 W Beaver Avenue, Suite C-4, The Blue & White Pub is locally owned and operated, bringing the unpretentious soul of your favorite neighborhood dive bar upstairs and into the heart of downtown.

Two grand openings. One great reason to come downtown 🎉

Friday, August 28, two neighboring businesses on South Pugh Street are celebrating their grand openings:
• At 129 S Pugh Street, Sizzling Bites is celebrating its new location and bringing its flavorful menu. They're kicking off the celebration with free chicken dinners and $5,000 worth of gift card giveaways for 10 lucky winners.
• The Whiskey Barber Salon LLC is celebrating its grand opening at 135 S Pugh Street with a chance to tour the new space, meet the team, enjoy live music, and more.
